Livestreaming 3D Printing, Art, and Games with PapaBear_AZ | Speedify LIVE

June 28, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

When Variety Streaming Meets 3D Printing

On the 98th episode of Speedify LIVE we take a look into the world of 3D printing with Joseph, aka PapaBear_AZ, the chill variety streamer who designs and 3D prints artwork live on his Twitch channel.

We chat about the ins and outs of 3D printing, partners and sponsors, how to engage an audience, and get so see some amazing 3D printed items made by PapaBear_AZ.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our talk with Joseph:

  1. PapaBear_AZ exclusively streams on Twitch, he says the main reason is that there’s more direct interaction than on any other platform. He likes the chat culture, the customizable emotes, and just the general way of interacting with the audience.
  2. Joseph says that 3D printing can change things in a good way, mostly in the sense of on demand: if you want something, you don’t have to wait for it so much. If it’s a printable item, you can just make it, and create a solution for what might not be out there.
  3. PapaBear_AZ uses the following setup for both 3D printing and gaming streams: a Windows 10 PC, with a Windows 11 laptop as backup; he uses OBS Studio as he’s found it to be the best option; he has a Go XLR Mixing deck, a Rode Procaster microphone, a couple Stream Decks and a Sony Monitor headphone to listen to his own audio to make sure he sounds good.
  4. For modeling, Joseph mainly uses two pieces of software: Tinkercad, a free program from Autodesk, for its easy online use, and Fusion 360, a paid option that is a bit more complicated and has a learning curve.
  5. When it comes to audience engagement PapaBear_AZ says the key thing is to talk, keep talking, ask the audience questions, and say things to get their attention. Try and stay away from “dead air” as much as possible, and come up with topics that you can debate with your viewers, like pineapple on pizza.
The main reason I stream, I think there’s three reasons: to share what I’m doing and have fun, to make friends that have common interests, and then to just educate, and share experience and knowledge with people.
