Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A with the Developers

August 10, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Ask Me Anything - Speedify Edition

On the 114th episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours with one of Speedify’s lead developers to talk about what new features we’re rolling out with Speedify 12.4!

As always, we take viewer questions, demonstrate our upcoming improvements to Speedify’s Connection Priorities, and talk about the difficulties of finding good servers for our customers.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our Office Hours:

  1. Speedify 12.4 is coming soon! With this release we’re improving how we automatically select Priorities for certain connections. From now on, if you’re connected to a cellular hotspot via Wi-Fi, Speedify will recognize that it’s actually still cellular and set it to Secondary, because we know that these are more expensive and often limited data connections. You can, of course, change these Priorities manually if you want!
  2. When it comes to IPv6, Speedify itself does support it, the limitation is more so on the servers we can get! This has been a tough task for our Server Team, as they’re constantly trying to find the best servers, but not all server providers offer IPv6 yet. But we have plans for offering IPv6 support on at least some servers soon.
  3. Clicking the Generate Logs option in the app on Linux will open the directory where your Speedify logs are generated. Look for a file called SpeedifyLogs.tar.gz. You can also manually generate them through the Command Line by running the GenerateLogs.sh script.
  4. When it comes to Redundant vs Streaming mode: we recommend Redundant in case you have two very unreliable connections and you want to send all traffic through both connections all the time. If you don’t care about data usage and want the extra reliability, use Redundant. But for most things, we recommend Streaming mode because it intelligently switches between active bonding and redundancy depending on what your connections need.
  5. You can create a custom Bypass for domains, ports, protocols or IP addresses through the Speedify CLI! The Bypass will direct these things around the VPN. You can find our guide for the CLI in our Support pages, or you can use the SpeedifyCLI.pdf file that is in your Speedify installation directory.
Streaming mode does things automatically in some cases, if it thinks that one connection's getting bad, it will switch you over to using redundant and then switch back to bonding.
