How to Create a Live Streaming Service and Be Successful with It
On the 48th episode of Speedify Live we partner up with yet another streaming tool, LightStream, to chat with their CEO and founder, Stu Grubbs, about how you can make livestreams more professional and impactful.
Stu shares his experiences in the business and how he became a CEO, and we discuss how his products, LightStream and Rainmaker, can help streamers grow.
Here are our 5 takeaways from our interview with Stu Grubbs:
- Stu and his co-founder created LightStream, first focusing creating a solution for a complicated section of streaming - gaming. What they created allows you to log in, drag in your cameras, backdrop, etc, and still give enough creative control to place everything you like, and go live in a matter of minutes.
- LightStream Cloud is Stu and company’s API system that serves as their cloud architecture available as a developer platform. It allows people to use that cloud to write their automated workflows for streams using the API.
- There’s two aspects to what Rainmaker is: 1. Engage: allowing for dynamic alerts in stream that are triggered by audience behavior (new follower, new subscriber, etc.) and 2. Measure: helping you understand where you’re getting more audience from, what time works best, provides analytics for the past streams to help you see what works, and how you can grow.
- Stu’s advice for streamers is all about consistency: of schedule, of content and of personality. Figure out why and what you want to stream, and be consistent. Find the best time that works for you, on one platform, and stick with it.
- Being in the business for quite a while Stu has experienced a few Streamergencies. One time they were covering one of the most prestigious music award shows, partnering with IBM Watson. Naturally, they did thorough testing, but at the time of the event there was a network blip and the stream would have gone down, had they not set up a redundant server to fail over to. Thanks to redundancy, just like what you would have in Speedify, the feed automatically flipped over to the backup server and the livestream went on without any issues.
Through data and automation, in the long-term, our product aims to give brands the confidence to invest in smaller creators.
