How to Build a Community Around IRL Urban Exploration
On the 145th episode of Speedify LIVE we take a look into the world of urban exploration with Spooky Streamer Extraordinaire Rellik, and his followers, the Rellik Army.
We talk about how Rellik got started as an IRL streamer, being prepared for anything on IRL adventures, and get some advice on how to build such a supportive community!
Here are our 5 takeaways from our chat with Rellik:
- Rellik says he never had any intention of becoming a streamer, it just happened! Working for Creepy Hollow Haunted House, he came up with his clown character to do promotions, accidentally ended up doing Facebook Live in its early days, then upon request from fans, he moved to Twitch, started IRL streaming, and has not stopped since!
- One of the key things about Rellik and Creepy Hollow is that they give back to the community whenever possible! They help deliver Christmas presents to families in need; work with Home Delivered Meals to provide hot meals to elderly people with disabilities; Lions Club provides kids with disabilities with the chance to experience camp life; also working with the Women’s Center to help women who’ve experienced abuse, among other charities.
- When it comes to building a great community, Rellik says it has a lot to do with consistency over time. He also believes that due to so many bad things happening in the world, people are just drawn to a positive presence, and a place where they can just hang out and laugh together.
- We learn that taking the clown mask off was one of the hardest decisions Rellik has had to make as a streamer! After starting to experience headaches and neck issues due to the weight of the silicone mask, Rellik put his health first and made the hard choice of taking it off, but thankfully, it has opened up a whole new world of IRL streaming for him.
- Rellik shares his IRL setup with us: he uses the GunRun backpack setup with a LiveU Solo, and a Sony AS300 Action Cam. He has AT&T and T-Mobile modems, sponsored by Nomad Internet; while he also has some Netgear Nighthawks, MiFis and a couple USB dongles that he can use if needed.
