Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A with our Developers

October 19, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

Helping People Get Better Connectivity

On the 141st episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours, once again with a Developer Takeover, hosted by Mike Kane and Brian Prodoehl!

We take viewer questions, chat about what Speedify has been doing to help our users in Iran, what we have in store for future updates, and discuss the differences between closest and fastest servers.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our Developer Takeover Office Hours:

  1. Starting October 5, 2022 Speedify has started its support for our users in Iran in these trying times! We are providing 20GB free data for the next two months, have expanded our servers in the area and beyond, and are seeing about 600,000 users running Speedify in Iran. Hopefully our bit of help makes a difference in staying connected.
  2. Speedify has released a number of big updates recently, but we have even more up our sleeves! We’re working on getting more apps and services to work with Speedify, improving our disconnect prompt and our reconnection, while also working to make logging in easier via Google or Apple.
  3. While we wouldn’t recommend turning encryption off, you can disable it in the Speedify app if you want. You may want to do this if you want to squeeze even just a little bit more speed out of your connections, but we wouldn’t recommend doing so on public networks, because your privacy matters!
  4. Speedify has its own unique protocol! This means that we are more likely to avoid the common VPN blocks that affect IPsec or OpenVPN. In addition, we offer the ability to switch transport modes between TCP, UDP, HTTPS and TCP Multiple.
  5. The Closest and Fastest Server in Speedify are almost the same, but not quite. The Closest server is just as the name implies, while the Fastest server option will  ping a bunch of your closest available servers, and based on the metrics we get back on things like server load, pick the fastest option. Sometimes the Closest server is not the Fastest.
In addition to having our own protocol, we can operate over TCP sockets, we can operate over UDP or we can actually tunnel through HTTPS connections.
