Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A with Our Developers

December 7, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

How to Solve Specific Internet Connectivity Issues with Speedify

On the 155th episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours with Speedify’s CTO Brian Prodoehl to chat about all things Speedify and livestreaming!

We take viewer questions, take a look at what’s coming in Speedify 12.8 and our upcoming streams, and check out some Mailbag Questions with specific user cases as well!

Here are our 5 takeaways from our Office Hours:

  1. The Speedify Office now has Starlink, and we even set up a camera on the roof to monitor it! We are getting ready for some cool things with Starlink, and we are also working on more Starlink related improvements in Speedify 12.8 to be released soon!
  2. Mailbag Question no.1 brings up a common problem many new users run into: when you bond the same connection multiple times via different means, it will not be able to provide a speed boost. If you do use the same connection via Wi-Fi and Ethernet, it may help with reliability, the speed will be limited to that of your connection.
  3. Mailbag Question no.2 is something we get a lot: how many connections can you combine in Speedify? On the software side, the limit is 31 connections, but otherwise, you can combine as many as you can connect your device to. Just make sure you have sufficient ports and adapters to use them all!
  4. Mailbag Question no.3 is something most people may not be aware of: Antivirus and Firewall software can cause issues! This is why, if you notice problems with your network connections or some apps like VPNs, we recommend you either disable them or whitelist said apps, like Speedify to make sure they don’t limit your ability to use the service in any way!
  5. There’s quite a few common “getting started” questions we get, but there’s a couple we have to answer a lot: if you want multiple Wi-Fi connections, you will need extra Wi-Fi adapters for it, as Speedify can only use a connection your device is capable of connecting to. Another common one is how Speedify works, and the answer: part magic, part VPN APIs.
I think the main thing would be to sort of work around that [slow uploads]. And that tends to be when I need to bond the most, when I’m on Wi-Fi that just can’t do what I need. So that’s where adding my tethered cell phone, when I need to do calls makes a big difference.
