Slow, Slower, Slowest
It’s that time of year again. With SXSW 2016 kicking off in just a couple days, folks in the music, film, and tech communities are starting to pack their bags, preparing to descend upon Austin, TX for another year of panels, parties, and pretty amazing tacos. It seems like each year, the throngs of crowds turning up for SXSW are growing exponentially, with record-breaking attendance expected once again in 2016. With all those people, however, comes an increasingly unmanageable load on the festival’s Wi-Fi infrastructure and local cell towers. The SXSW folks are refreshingly up-front about this issue on their own website saying, “Due to the user load in congested areas, you may experience a slow connection or have difficulty connecting to the network at times. If that is the case, you may want to move to a less congested area.”
The problem is, anyone who’s been to SXSW knows there’s really no such thing as a less congested area.
Downtown Dead Zone
In past years, when things are in full-swing, we’ve found it impossibly slow to load apps and websites on our smartphones anywhere downtown. One Austin-based musician we spoke to called the area between 12th and Cesar Chavez a literal connectivity dead zone during SXSW. Sure, that’s somewhat of an annoyance if you’re loading Google Maps to find directions to the next party, or trying to Yelp a taco truck (we suggest Torchy’s on First St. for some of the best breakfast tacos we’ve ever had). However, we realize it can spell disaster for bloggers and journalists that are required to post up-to-the-minute content on their tech, music, or film beats.
Speedify your SXSW
That’s where Speedify Mobile comes in. Speedify is our new app for iOS and Android that finally lets you combine mobile data and Wi-Fi networks for blazing fast speeds and increased reliability. With Speedify running on your mobile device, you can rest assured that you’ve got optimal connection speeds no matter where you are. If you’re a journalist trying to upload the latest on-the-scene scoop from downtown Austin next week, wouldn’t it be a shame if you got beaten to the punch because of slow, overtaxed mobile networks? In that situation (and many more), Speedify has your back. Our app intelligently detects that slow LTE network and kicks in, bonding available public Wi-Fi to give you the bandwidth you need to get the story to your editor on time. The best part is, Speedify is easy-to-use and costs nothing to get started, optimizing up to 2 GB of your device’s Internet connectivity across all available connections absolutely free. Get started today, and make sure that you’ve got fast, unbreakable connectivity for SXSW 2016 and beyond.
