Legendary VPN Service TunnelBear Becomes Part of McAfee’s New Strategy
According to a post on VentureBeat, confirmed on the TunnelBear blog, McAfee has acquired Canadian VPN company TunnelBear for an amount that has not been disclosed. The TunnelBear brand and standalone apps will be kept alive by McAfee.
Why Speedify Likes TunnelBear – Fun and Easy to Use VPN
TunnelBear was founded in 2011 and since it’s beginnings it was a fun VPN service (we love the bear!) and also very easy to use VPN solution. Being a trailblazer in this, TunnelBear motivated us here at Speedify to refine our service more and more and made “easy to use” one of the core attributes of the Speedify service.
Speedify – Easy to Use Mobile VPN
The road to being an “easy to use” mobile VPN was certainly easier for us having the solid example of TunnelBear in front. Although the “secret sauce” is different with Speedify – being able to combine multiple Internet connections simultaneously – the basics (security, privacy, unlocking regional restrictions and blocked content) are still there.
Speedify started as a desktop-only channel bonding app back in 2014 and made its debut as a mobile app at CES 2016. Back then, the interface was very different than the one today, but starting with Speedify version 4.0, we stepped up to our “easy to use” policy, making the interface unitary on both desktop and mobile devices.
How Does Speedify Work?
Speedify makes your internet secure, stable, and fast with the magic of Channel Bonding--but how?
- First, Speedify establishes a connection to one of our Speed Servers in the Cloud. This acts as a middleman between you and the rest of the internet, keeping your web activity private and secure.
- Next, the app works with the Speed Server to intelligently spread network packets among all your available internet connections.
- And presto! Speedify is able to provide the combined speed and stability of all your internet connections—unlike any other VPN on the market.
Now, with the latest version 5.9, Speedify even includes its own online speed test right inside the app for the most accurate results for each network adapter and for the combined speed.
