What Are Your Internet Options on a Boat
Boaters have historically had limited internet options: cellular data in coastal areas, marina Wi-Fi when docked, traditional VSAT geostationary satellite services for offshore use, and older LEO satellite networks. Each has limitations.
Cellular only works within range of land-based towers, typically within 20 to 30 miles of shore depending on carrier infrastructure and antenna height. Marina Wi-Fi is inconsistent and often congested. Traditional VSAT delivers high latency that makes real-time applications difficult. Starlink Maritime changes the equation for offshore use, delivering low-latency broadband across major ocean routes with download speeds typically between 40 and 220 Mbps.

Speedify runs on a device or router aboard your boat and monitors all active internet connections simultaneously. Speedify tracks latency, packet loss, and available bandwidth on each connection continuously. When multiple connections are active, Speedify bonds them and delivers up to 95% of their combined upload and download capacity. When one connection drops, Speedify moves all traffic to the remaining connections instantly at the packet level.

Step 1: Install Your Starlink Dish on the Boat
Mount your Starlink Maritime dish on a position with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Avoid mounting behind structures that block the dish’s field of view. Connect the dish to your onboard router or network switch.
Step 2: Add Your 4G/5G Cellular Connection
Install a 4G/5G cellular modem, marine cellular antenna, or connect a tethered phone to your onboard router or device. Confirm the cellular interface is active and appearing in your network settings.
Step 3: Download and Run Speedify
Download Speedify on your device or install it on your onboard router. Speedify detects all active connections and begins bonding them. Your boat internet now uses all available connections simultaneously and fails over automatically if any single one drops.

Speedify displays real-time Starlink dish alerts in the app dashboard. If your Starlink Maritime terminal detects a stuck actuator motor, a non-vertical mast, or a thermal throttle condition, Speedify shows the alert immediately.
