Instagram Connection Issues – Instagram Down or is it Your Connection?
As you and the other 400 million active daily users know, Instagram is a great way to share pictures and videos. Now, Instagram also added video chat! But, at the worst times, Instagram connection issues appear. Your stories and posts are as important now as before the days of social distancing. They are often our only connection to our friends and family these days.
Assuming there are no software issues on your smartphone, and you have the latest version of Instagram, the issue is your Internet connection.
Read below to learn how you can resolve Instagram connection issues.
Quick answer
Should you have a backup 4G, 5G, Starlink, or cable internet connection?
Yes — every internet connection goes down, including Starlink, which drops for ~34 minutes a day on average. A backup connection from a different provider means one outage never takes you fully offline. The most common options are a 4G/5G cellular hotspot, a cable or DSL line, or a second satellite dish.
4G/5G cellular
Works anywhere. Just a SIM or hotspot — no installation needed.

Speedify Pair & Share: share cellular between your devices, both ways

What Causes Instagram Connection Issues?
There are multiple reasons why this can happen; some of them include:
- You don’t have the latest version of the app which probably fixes that bug.
- There are software conflicts on your device between Instagram and other apps.
- You have a problem with your account – is it blocked or disabled?
- Poor Internet connection – slow and unstable. This is most common when it comes to Instagram connection issues.
Here’s what happens: by default iOS and Android use only one Internet connection at a time. You must either connect through Wi-Fi or through a mobile data connection. If your signal is weak or spotty, your device can lose little bits of information called packets. This results in uploads and downloads getting hung up or stopping entirely.
There may not be enough bandwidth available to complete your request as fast as you would like. It’s a little like being caught in a traffic jam on the freeway – the more lanes you have, the faster you can go.
Troubleshooting Instagram Connection Issues
As mentioned above, poor Internet is the most likely cause if Instagram connection issues. But you should rule out other potential causes by:
- Restarting Instagram
- Clearing the app’s cache
- Updating the Instagram app
- Restarting your phone
If you still can’t load the app or the content doesn’t load, then the next step is to work on your Internet connection. Speedify is an app you can get for iOS or Android that solves connection related Instagram issues. Instead of only having a single internet connection at a time, Speedify allows your smartphone to use cellular data and Wi-Fi at the same time. This gives you a faster, more reliable Instagram experience. Speedify monitors the quality of your Wi-Fi and mobile data strength and reliability. It’s got priority rules and will use Wi-Fi connections before sending data over a more expensive cellular connection. It also automatically reroutes data from a slow and unreliable Wi-Fi to cellular data. When Wi-Fi is good again, it reconnects to it. All of this happens without you ever having to do anything. Instead, you just keep enjoying Instagram.
