IRL: Philadelphia’s Chinese Lantern Festival | Speedify LIVE

July 12, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Celebrating a 2,000 Years Chinese Tradition

On the 103rd episode of Speedify LIVE we head outside for another IRL stream with our iPhone to tour Philadelphia’s famous Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square Park.

We check out as many of the lights as possible, chat to some local businesses at the festival, and even answer a few audience questions!

Here are our 5 takeaways from our walkthrough of Philly’s Lantern Festival:

  1. The Chinese Lantern Festival is organized by Historic Philadelphia, which is an organization that renovated the Franklin Square 16 years ago, brining it back from lengthy disrepair! They work with the city to bring the festival and renovations to life.
  2. The Lantern Festival reuses the lanterns so they don’t go to waste: the handmade lanterns either go to other festivals as is, or they will be recycled by taking them apart and reusing the aluminum frames for new lanterns.
  3. One of the businesses we talk to is Oishii: normally a sushi and ramen place, but at the festival they’re serving a mixture of Asian foods from meatballs with spicy mayo to chicken sauté, to bao and fried ice cream. Their regular store can be found at 138 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia.
  4. Sang Kee Noodle House is a well-known local Chinese restaurant, but at the festival it’s popular for its special pineapple smoothies! They’re also available in two locations: one in Chinatown and other at UPENN at 36th Street and Chandlers, inside the Sheraton Hotel.
  5. Connectivity is one of the biggest everyday issues Internet users face these days, however Speedify can help! It combines 2 or more connections to help your online calls, livestreams or online gaming by protecting you from high latency, and provides you overall better connection reliability.
Speedify adds very little to your latency and tends to protect you from very bad things happening to your latency.
