Feature · Pair & Share

Cellular sharing that goes both ways.

Speedify's Pair & Share feature enables devices to pair up and share their cellular connections back and forth for increased speed and stability. Capacity grows with the team, with no additional hardware to deploy and no carrier contracts to negotiate.

Benefits

SHARED BANDWIDTH

Bonding, extended across devices.

Speedify's channel bonding technology enables the use of multiple links on a single device. Pair & Share extends that bonding across devices: each pairing adds a cellular path to both bonded sessions. Capacity grows with the team, not the hardware.

RESILIENCE FROM PEERS

A device drops out. The session keeps going.

Each pairing contributes a cellular path to your bonded session. If any of those paths drops, Speedify keeps the session running on the rest, with no reconnect and no user-visible interruption.

ZERO HARDWARE

Add cellular capacity without a purchase order.

Pair & Share runs entirely over the local network between devices running Speedify. No new hardware, no IT deployment, no carrier negotiations. Pair once, and devices reconnect automatically when on the same network in the future.

01 · The Basics

A new kind of hotspot.

A standard personal hotspot turns one cellular connection into Wi-Fi for one or more people. It's one-to-many: one provider, multiple consumers, capped at the speed of the single underlying connection. Pair & Share is built on peer-to-peer pairings. Two Speedify devices pair up, and each one's bonded session can then use both cellular connections. Pair with another device and your session adds another cellular path. Each pairing is its own relationship, set up individually, controlled by both parties, and used by both at once.

Deep Dive · Watch

How Speedify's channel bonding technology actually works.

Walk through the protocol, the per-packet distribution model, the failover logic, and the encryption layer in one detailed explainer. The architecture and the engineering tradeoffs that make Speedify different from a load-balancer or a regular VPN.

02 · Under the Hood

What happens when you pair.

Two Speedify devices on the same local network see each other. The owners approve the pairing. Encrypted tunnels open between them, and each device's traffic gets split across both cellular connections, bonded as a single session, and reassembled at the Speed Server. Each additional pairing adds one more cellular path to that device's bonded session. The pairings are independent of each other.

How the pairing works

Mutual consent. Mutual benefit.

01

Peer discovery

Speedify devices on the same local network find each other automatically over multicast. No central server, no manual address entry.

02

Mutual pairing

Pairing requires explicit consent from both devices before keys are exchanged. Either side can decline future invitations or remove a pairing at any time. Trust is always mutual and revocable.

03

Encrypted tunnels

Every peer-to-peer link runs through an AES-256 tunnel. The local network sees encrypted traffic, the carrier sees normal cellular traffic.

04

Capacity-aware sharing

Each contributor controls how much of their cellular connection they share. Cap it to keep bandwidth for yourself, or open it all the way to help anyone you're paired with.

03 · Modes

Four situations Pair & Share was built for.

Where Pair & Share shines. Four common deployment scenarios, below.

SCENARIO 01

Different carriers, one room.

Three teammates in a conference room each on a different carrier. After each teammate pairs with the others, every device's session can use every carrier at once. Useful for distributed teams where each person was issued a different carrier.

AT&T

T-Mobile

Verizon

Per user

SCENARIO 02

When one device needs more uplink.

A field producer needs to push a high-bitrate stream. Four colleagues nearby don't need their full cellular connection right now. The streamer pairs with each colleague individually. Each colleague keeps most of their own cellular connection for themselves through a sharing cap, while the streamer's session pulls a portion from each.

SCENARIO 03

The venue can't keep up.

Four team members in a packed hall where everyone's cellular has dropped to single digits because cell sectors are saturated. After each one pairs with the others, every device's session pulls from all four cellular connections at once. Common at trade shows, large conferences, and any venue where cellular gets congested.

SCENARIO 04

A router with built-in backup.

A Powered by Speedify router serves the office Wi-Fi from its Ethernet WAN. Two staff phones pair with the router and contribute their cellular connections. The router's bonded uplink now includes Ethernet plus two cellular paths, and every device on the office Wi-Fi benefits, including PCs that aren't running Speedify themselves. If the Ethernet drops, the office stays online on cellular until it recovers.

04 · Deployment

Where Speedify's Pair & Share runs.

Pair & Share is a feature of the Speedify app on every supported platform. It works wherever two or more Speedify devices can see each other on the same local network, on phones, tablets, laptops, and Speedify-powered routers.

A · Device Level

Pair phones, tablets, laptops.

Run Speedify on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, or Linux. Pairing works across platforms and is always bilateral. A laptop paired with a phone gains a cellular path for its bonded session; two phones paired add a cellular path to each.

Licensing

For businesses, this is provided through a Speedify Teams subscription, which centralizes billing, user provisioning, permissions, and usage analytics across your organization.

Best For

Mobile teams, field crews, distributed knowledge workers, journalists, traveling sales, and anyone who arrives somewhere as a group and needs better connectivity than the venue can provide.

B · Network Level

Extend with a Speedify router.

A Speedify-powered router can pair with devices on its network, adding each paired device's cellular to the router's bonded WAN. The expanded uplink serves every device on the LAN, useful for adding cellular backup or extra uplink capacity to a router-anchored site.

Licensing

Network-level deployment is licensed via Speedify for Routers, available two ways:

Speedify for Routers
Add Speedify to a supported OpenWrt router you already own.

Powered by Speedify routers
Hardware with Speedify preinstalled and licensed out of the box. Miri, GL.iNET, and other partners.

Best For

Event production, mobile command, vehicles with bonded routers plus crew phones, and any deployment where a fixed router benefits from the cellular signal in the room.

Note

Pair & Share works across mixed deployments. A Speedify-powered router can pair with phones to extend its bonded WAN with their cellular, and those phones can also pair with each other for their own bonded sessions.

04 · In production

Where Pair & Share earns its keep.

Pair & Share matters most where a team's combined cellular exceeds the venue's Wi-Fi capacity. Live broadcast crews, sales teams in unfamiliar buildings, vessels in port, response teams at an incident scene. A short list of where it's already running.
