Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A With Our Developers

March 1, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

Better Internet Questions Answered Live by Speedify

On the 181st episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours with the Speedify Devs to talk all things Speedify and streaming with Speedify!

We take viewer questions, discuss all the upcoming improvements to Speedify, and take a look at some user-specific cases from our Mailbag.

Here are our 5 takeaways from this week’s Office Hours:

  1. Speedify works by using VPN APIs that are available on different platforms! The app makes decisions on what to do with each packet, which means we can shift packets from one connection to another in case one starts to fail, or if none of your connections is fast enough for a stream, we can do bonding and split a stream across multiple connections, while we also encrypt everything between your device and our server.
  2. We use JavaScript on all platforms for a reason: with a smaller team, and wanting to cover all platforms, we had to consider what works best for keeping the app up to speed and adding new features to all platforms. Using the native webviews on all platforms lets us have a consistent feel across all of them and easily add new features.
  3. The Speedify Team is constantly working on more improvements! In upcoming releases there are some major changes coming to authentication in our effort to make sign-in easier for everyone; we’re pushing for a scale-up to be able to deal with a large influx of users; we’re improving and expanding our Bypass feature; making improvements to how we handle latency and jitter, while we also work on cutting down memory usage!
  4. Mailbag Question No.1 brings up a common issue of Antivirus and Firewall software blocking VPNs. These are false positive reports, so we recommend whitelisting Speedify, or alternatively uninstalling your Firewall software as a last resort.
  5. Mailbag Question No.2 brings up another common case: using multiple connections from the same source will not give you a speed boost! We always recommend combining connections from multiple sources so you could not only get a more stable bonded connection, but a faster one too!
Keeping the client app up to speed and being able to add features to all of them. As we go across five different platforms and five different, totally native apps just would have been too difficult. So we made the decision of do we either just support one or two platforms or do we want to go with a web app sort of thing. That’s what we ended up doing.
