Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A With Our Developers

April 5, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

How Speedify Can Help Get Better Starlink Internet

On the 188th episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours with the Speedify Devs to talk about Speedify basics, upcoming updates and dive more into Starlink!

We take viewer questions as usual, demo what features we’re working to improve, and discuss some of the challenges we faced with our 24/7 Starlink test stream.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our Office Hours:

  1. When starting out with Speedify there’s a couple things to know: we support all major platforms, so you can use Speedify on iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows or Linux, even a Raspberry Pi; Speedify is a VPN so it encrypts your traffic, but it also does channel bonding that combines your available connections into one faster, more reliable connection!
  2. Speedify 13.2 is coming soon, and we’re doing something big: we’re overhauling our Bypass feature! With previous versions you had 12 default options for sites and services to go around the VPN, but with 13.2 you’ll have over 70, with toggles set to off, and notifications available for when you may want to turn some of them on!
  3. If you’re looking for LRT (link resilience technology), Speedify has its own version in our Redundant mode! LRT is a technology used to help improve connections by using multiple connections simultaneously, so if one fails, it jumps over to the other – this is what our Redundant mode does.
  4. When it comes to testing Speedify with various scenarios we have a wide variety of connections available! We have a “test town” where we can emulate any internet connection in any scenario, running servers 24/7 with Speedify clients, going through different combinations of connections and scenarios.
  5. Starlink is a satellite internet service provider that uses a network of low Earth-orbit satellites to provide internet – and we’re testing it non-stop! Our 24/7 Twitch stream uses Starlink with an emulated DSL connection for a more realistic scenario; you can listen to chill music from Slip.stream, use chat commands for some fun, and keep an eye on the Starlink stats on screen and see Speedify in action.
With Starlink you just need one more thing: even a DSL that gives you 1.5 Mbps up, and 1.5 Mbps is terrible, it barely works. But when Starlink is barely working, and the DSL is barely working, Speedify will keep you online. And maybe it’ll get a little blurrier, but you’ll make it through without cutting off your audience.
