Speedify × Sports Streaming
Bond every internet connection. Stream every moment of the game.
The Problem
Sports venues are the worst place to stream live video.
A sports stream has zero tolerance for interruption. The moment a goal is scored, a try is crossed, or a buzzer-beater drops, that clip needs to be live. Buffering during the decisive moment is not a technical inconvenience: it is the entire job failing in front of the audience.
And sports venues make that job as hard as possible. Stadiums and arenas pack tens of thousands of people into a small area. Every person has a phone. Every phone is hitting the same cellular towers. By kickoff, 4G/5G coverage is congested and upload speeds collapse. Venue Wi-Fi is designed for fans browsing social media, not for high-bitrate video uplinks. Wired Ethernet drops are rarely available at sideline or pitch-side positions. Satellite connections like Starlink experience periodic handoffs that can interrupt an upload at exactly the wrong moment.
A single internet connection, however fast at 9 AM on an empty field, is not reliable enough by 3 PM when 60,000 fans arrive. Sports streaming teams that depend on one uplink are one tower overload, one venue Wi-Fi failure, or one satellite handoff away from going offline during the most-watched moment of the event.
The game
does not wait for the reconnect.
The Solution
One bonded uplink. Every internet connection, working together.
- 4G/5G modems from different carriers provide carrier-diverse redundancy: when one tower is congested, Speedify shifts load to whichever carrier is performing better at that moment.
- Starlink adds high-throughput satellite bandwidth that does not depend on local cellular tower capacity - critical at sold-out venues where every carrier is saturated simultaneously.
- Venue Wi-Fi, where it is available and usable, contributes to the bond as an additional upload path. Speedify weights it according to real-time performance, not assumptions.
- Speedify encrypts the entire bonded connection with AES-256 end-to-end, including during failover events. There is no exposure window when a link drops.
- Speedify's real-time streaming optimization prioritizes upload traffic for video, keeping the encoder feed stable even when other devices on the network are active.
// what control sees
Sixty thousand phones in the stadium. The stream stays on.
No interpolation artifacts during the satellite handoff. No bitrate collapse when the venue cellular and Wi-Fi gets crowded. No visible freeze when a truck pulls between the satellite dish and the constellation. Just a contribution feed that holds: which is what every minute of paid airtime above it depends on.
Scenarios
Built for every position on the sports streaming workflow.
01 / Sideline and pitch-side streaming
Stay live from the touchline, whatever the venue throws at the uplink.
02 / Multi-camera sports production
A bonded uplink that handles every camera feed at once.
03 / Remote and outdoor sports events
Streaming from locations where cellular coverage is sparse and unpredictable.
04 / Remote commentary and co-production
A stable internet connection between the venue and the studio.
Stack
Speedify works under the encoders sports teams already run.
Speedify operates one layer below the encoder, at the network level. The encoder sees a single, more resilient internet connection. Stream keys, bitrate settings, and platform destinations stay exactly as configured. Nothing in the encoder workflow changes.
For teams running bonded cellular encoders - LiveU, TVU, Dejero - Speedify adds an additional resilience layer underneath the encoder's own bonding. The encoder's built-in modems contribute to the Speedify bond, and Speedify can add Starlink and additional cellular modems the encoder does not support natively. The encoder gets a higher-throughput, more resilient path beneath it.
The Solution
Two ways to run Speedify at a sports event.
Network level
Run Speedify on a supported bonding router so every device in the production rig - encoder, monitoring laptop, comms equipment - benefits from the bonded internet uplink without per-device installation. Two options:
- Supported OpenWrt routers: With a Speedify for Routers license.
- Powered by Speedify routers: Speedify is preinstalled and ready to configure.
Device level
Visibility
Every link visible. Every problem caught before the stream sees it.
Speedify surfaces real-time link health across every bonded internet connection on the Speedify dashboard. Signal degradation, throughput drops, and link failures appear within seconds of detection, before the encoder registers a bitrate dip and well before the audience sees any impact. Each internet connection reports independently, so a technical operator in the production rig or monitoring remotely can identify exactly which link is degrading and take action.
At a congested venue, that visibility matters: knowing that carrier A has dropped to 2 Mbps upload while Starlink and carrier B are holding at full throughput is actionable information. Without it, all the technical operator knows is that the combined uplink feels slower than expected.
