On the 87th episode of Speedify LIVE we are joined by Cody “DSKoopa” Spencer from Pink Gorilla Games, who livestreams daily to thousands of Twitch viewers from his game store in Seattle. They’re an inspiration for many streamers, including a few that we’ve had on as guests.

We chat about everything from dinosaurs to rare video games, to what it’s like running a game store, to how streaming has helped the store, especially during the pandemic.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our chat with Cody from Pink Gorilla Games:

1. For his streams, Cody uses the following setup: a Sony a6600 camera with a mobile streaming setup for convenience of mobility, running four cellular connections through a LiveU box which takes an HDMI, digitally encodes the stream, sends it over the cellular, then sends RTMP to a live server, which then sends the stream to Twitch. 
2. Streaming has helped Pink Gorilla Games quite a bit, especially when the pandemic first began. When they weren’t able to work from the store, Cody still managed to avoid letting any employees go by streaming 12 hours a day, selling their products through the livestreams, allowing him to still pay all employees in these tough times. 
3. Cody has managed to find the perfect way to implement Twitch Channel Points into his streams: with enough channel points you can redeem a “personal shopper” option which allows you to control the camera, have Cody walk you through the store, and pick out the games you want to buy! 
4. Pink Gorilla Games uses Discord to keep in touch with his community, which people can find linked on his Twitch channel. The Discord topics include: video games, wrestling, baseball, and encouraging each other with weight loss.
5. Cody’s advice to anyone looking to start streaming: don’t quit your day job right away! He doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t put your all into your streams, rather that it can be beneficial to still have a normal everyday life, go out and see people, in addition to having your streams.
