Choose the Best Speedify Server Type for You to Get Faster Upload and Download Speeds
Speedify gives you three ways to configure the server side of your bonding connection. The differences between them matter for performance, control, and cost. The right choice depends on what you're actually trying to accomplish.
In this article we'll go over the 3 types of Speedify servers: shared (public), private (dedicated) and self-hosted.
Speedify server options
Speedify Public Servers
Enjoy increased reliability and more predictable throughput with a private server accessible to only you, your Family, or Team.
Speedify Dedicated Servers
Enjoy increased reliability and more predictable throughput with a private server accessible to only you, your Family, or Team.
Speedify Self-Hosted Servers
Run your own private Speedify server infrastructure on any cloud provider or physical hardware you control.

Speedify Shared (Public) Servers
When you install Speedify and connect without changing server settings, you're connecting to one of Speedify's shared (public) servers, where server infrastructure shared across many users. This is the default and is included with every Speedify plan.
Shared servers work well for individual users and small teams using Speedify primarily for reliability and failover. You get access to Speedify's global server network, automatic server selection based on your location, and all of Speedify's bonding capabilities.
The tradeoff is that server resources and IP addresses are shared. For most users, this doesn't matter. For users with higher throughput demands, IP-sensitive applications, or specific compliance requirements, it becomes a limitation.
Speedify Dedicated Servers
Speedify's dedicated speed servers give you reserved capacity on Speedify's infrastructure. Your clients connect to a server where you're not sharing CPU, bandwidth, or IP addresses with other customers.
Dedicated servers provide meaningfully higher throughput for demanding use cases — streaming, large file transfers, high-frequency data collection — without the operational overhead of managing your own server infrastructure. Speedify handles provisioning, maintenance, and uptime.
The limitation is that dedicated servers run on Speedify's infrastructure in Speedify's locations. You don't control where the server runs or what happens to traffic between the server and its destination.
Speedify Self-Hosted Servers
A self-hosted server is the Speedify server software running on infrastructure you provision and manage. Your clients connect to your server; traffic flows through your environment.
Self-hosting provides the most control. You choose the server location, the hardware or VM specs, the network configuration, and the access policies. Traffic doesn't traverse Speedify's infrastructure. IP addresses are yours. Logs belong to you.
The cost is operational responsibility. You're running server software — which means keeping it up to date, monitoring it, and managing the infrastructure it runs on. For organizations with IT staff already doing this for other systems, that's not a significant burden. For individuals or small teams without dedicated IT, it's a consideration.

How to Choose the Right Speedify Server Type for Your Needs
Use Speedify shared (public) servers if:
- You're an individual or small team
- Your primary use case is reliability and failover, not maximum throughput
- You don't have specific compliance or data handling requirements
Use Speedify dedicated servers if:
- You need higher throughput than shared servers reliably provide
- You want a fixed IP address for IP-sensitive applications
- You want performance isolation without managing infrastructure yourself
Use a Speedify self-hosted server if:
- You need the bonding infrastructure inside your own environment
- You have data residency or compliance requirements that preclude third-party infrastructure
- You need a server in a location Speedify's network doesn't cover
- You're already managing cloud or on-premises server infrastructure
These Speedify server options aren't mutually exclusive - you can use a combination of them, depending on your infrastructure needs. Some organizations use Speedify's shared or dedicated servers for most users while deploying a self-hosted server for a specific team or location with stricter requirements. Speedify clients can be pointed at any server, so you can mix configurations across your deployment.
