How Powered by Speedify Helps Provide Better Connectivity
Imagine a typical home or office setup, with a router connected to an ISP over fiber optic, cable, DSL, or satellite, which broadcasts a Wi-Fi network. All devices (smartphones, computers, TVs, game consoles, etc.) use the Internet via that Wi-Fi hotspot. In parallel, mobile phones also have their own cellular connections.
When a router loses its primary Internet connection, the Wi-Fi network will still be available, but all devices connected to it won’t be able to access the Internet. Smartphones will detect that the Wi-Fi network does not have Internet access and begin using cellular data instead.
Speedify has a feature called Pair & Share, which enables all devices running Speedify to benefit from each other’s Internet connectivity as long as they are on the same Wi-Fi network. In our example, the cellular Internet from the mobile phones can be shared between each other, along with the Linux, Mac, and Windows based computers, smart TVs, set top boxes, and other devices running Speedify. This includes the Powered by Speedify router, which allows all devices connected to it to gain access to the Internet using the cellular data from the mobile phones.
When the primary Internet connection is restored, the Powered by Speedify router will automatically bond all available connections, including the primary ISP, the cellular data from the Speedify enabled phones and any additional available connections. This will make the Internet faster, more reliable and secure for all devices.
If the Powered by Speedify router supports multiple built-in WAN interfaces (Multi-WAN) – e.g. wired Ethernet, cellular, USB dongle or tethered mobile phone – Speedify will be able to use all available connections and have the option to configure their priority and behavior.
Powered by Speedify Implementation Example
A recent implementation of “Powered by Speedify” was done by Miri Technologies, who launched the Miri X510 bonding router. It integrates Speedify’s proven channel bonding technology to deliver fast, resilient, secure connectivity.
The X510 can bond up to 7 links simultaneously by combining wired, Wi-Fi, 5G and LTE connections plus Pair & Share with other Speedify users. It is also battery-powered, so it can be used even where no power outlets are available.
