Speedify 16.8 Adds Starlink Dish Controls

A Starlink dish sometimes needs a hands-on fix. For many dish problems, the first step is a restart: unplug the power for 20 seconds, then plug the dish back in. Before transport or extreme weather, the dish needs to be stowed, folded into a protective position. Until Speedify 16.8, both meant leaving Speedify for the Starlink app or the power cable.

The short version: Speedify 16.8, released on 27 May 2026 for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and OpenWrt, adds Starlink dish controls, so you can stow and unstow a Starlink dish, reboot the dish and set a sleep schedule for the dish from inside Speedify. Speedify 16.8 also fixes the alignment display when multiple internet connections run to the same Starlink dish, improves the performance of the Starlink obstruction map and stats display, improves performance on high-latency VSAT satellite internet connections, fixes a bug that logged users out of the Speedify account, and fixes captive portal detection.

How to Stow, Reboot and Schedule a Starlink Dish From Speedify

Speedify 16.7 added the Starlink Control Center, which shows the health of each dish, an obstruction map and an Alignment Wizard. Speedify 16.8 adds controls that act on the dish directly:

  • Stow and unstow. A stowed dish sits folded, the position for transport or for protecting the hardware in extreme conditions. A stowed dish gives you no internet service until the dish is unstowed.
  • Reboot. Restarting the Starlink system can clear many technical issues, according to the guide to Starlink dish alert messages in Speedify. Speedify 16.8 lets you reboot the dish from Speedify.
  • Sleep schedule. A sleep schedule sets hours when the dish powers down.

A stowed or sleeping dish carries no internet traffic. If Starlink is your only internet connection, stowing the dish takes you offline. If you combine Starlink with another internet connection, such as 4G/5G cellular, Speedify keeps your internet traffic on the other internet connection.

Starlink Alignment Display and Obstruction Map Fixes

When multiple internet connections ran to the same Starlink dish, the alignment display showed the dish incorrectly. Speedify 16.8 fixes the alignment display. The obstruction map shows each dish’s view of the sky: green where the view is clear, red where the dish has been blocked. Speedify 16.8 improves the performance of the obstruction map and of the Starlink stats display.

Better Performance on High-Latency VSAT Satellite Internet Connections

VSAT is traditional satellite internet, where a small dish talks to a satellite in a high, fixed orbit. Traditional satellite internet is typically slow and has high latency, meaning a long delay for data to reach a server and come back. Speedify 16.8 improves performance on high-latency VSAT internet connections.

The advice on which internet connections to bond with Speedify still stands: high latency drags down overall performance when traditional satellite is bonded with other internet connections, so traditional satellite works best as a backup. To make a VSAT internet connection the backup, tap the internet connection on the Speedify dashboard and choose Backup priority.

Fixes for Unexpected Logouts and Captive Portal Detection

A bug could log users out of the Speedify account. Speedify 16.8 fixes the bug.

A captive portal is the sign-in or terms page that hotel, airport and coffee shop Wi-Fi shows before letting you online. Speedify detects the captive portal, shows a notification, and opens the sign-in page inside Speedify while your internet traffic stays protected. Speedify 16.8 fixes a bug in captive portal detection.

Other Fixes and Changes in Speedify 16.8

  • On Android, user interface fixes for Android TV.
  • On Windows, fixes for Windows compatibility mode.
  • On Windows, fixed a bug that caused incorrect latency readings on some internet connections.
  • On Linux, Speedify now uses BBR, a method developed by Google that decides how fast to send data by measuring the speed and delay of each internet connection.
