Speedify 17.2 Adds App Bypass on Windows and Linux
Speedify sends your internet traffic through the encrypted Speedify tunnel, across every internet connection you have. The tunnel is what lets Speedify combine your internet connections and keep calls and downloads going when one internet connection drops. Some apps work better outside the tunnel, though: a banking app that flags VPN traffic, a work tool that expects a local IP address, a service with built-in routing.
The short version: Speedify 17.2, released on 21 September 2026 for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and OpenWrt, adds App Bypass to Windows and Linux. App Bypass lets you exclude chosen apps from the encrypted, bonded Speedify VPN tunnel, so those apps reach the internet directly over the device’s main internet connection. Speedify 17.2 also stops sessions ending when a device goes to sleep, lowers memory use over long sessions, and fixes App Bypass on Android 17.
On Windows and Linux you could already make exceptions for streaming services, websites, IP addresses and ports. You couldn’t pick a whole program. Speedify 17.2 adds bypass for whole programs and fixes two bugs.
In this release:
- App Bypass on Windows and Linux
- Sessions no longer end when your device goes to sleep
- Lower memory use the longer Speedify runs
- Android: App Bypass works again on Android 17
How to Bypass the Speedify VPN by App Instead of by Address
Bypass has grown in steps. Streaming Bypass came first, for services like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ (Speedify 9.4). Custom domains followed on the command line (Speedify 10.8), and since Speedify 15.9 you can add your own domain, IP address and port rules in the app. Android has had App Bypass since Speedify 12.1.
Domain rules work when you know the addresses. Most apps don’t tell you: apps talk to a list of servers that keeps changing, and you end up chasing the list. With Speedify 17.2 you pick the program by name instead, and everything the program sends leaves your device directly over the device’s main internet connection.
To set up App Bypass, open the ≡ menu in the top left of the Speedify dashboard, go to Privacy, then Bypass, then Custom, and choose Add Bypass Group, then Apps. The App Bypass guide has the details.
What a Bypassed App Gives Up: Encryption, Bonding and Failover
A bypassed app skips Speedify entirely. The app’s internet traffic isn’t encrypted by Speedify, isn’t combined with your other internet connections, and gets no failover: if the internet connection under the app drops, the app drops too. Every other app on your device stays in the encrypted tunnel, on every internet connection you have.
Speedify bonds Starlink Wi-Fi and cellular inside the encrypted Speedify tunnel, while a bypassed app uses Starlink Wi-Fi alone. When Starlink drops, everything in the tunnel carries on over cellular and the bypassed app goes offline.
Bypass the app that refuses VPN traffic, not the video call you want to survive a dropout. Since Speedify 11.9, Speedify has kept browser-based calling apps such as Google Meet from bypassing the tunnel.
Which Platforms Have App Bypass
Windows and Linux get App Bypass in Speedify 17. Android has had App Bypass since Speedify 12.1, but App Bypass stopped working on Android 17, which Speedify 17 started supporting in July; Speedify 17.2 fixes the problem. macOS and iOS don’t have App Bypass. On macOS and iOS, Custom Bypass can still send a specific website, IP address or port around the tunnel.
Speedify Sessions No Longer End When a Device Sleeps
When a device went to sleep, Speedify could end the device’s Speedify session. Speedify 17.2 fixes the bug.
Lower Memory Use Over Long Speedify Sessions
Speedify now uses less memory the longer Speedify runs. Lower memory use matters most on routers and always-on machines that run Speedify for weeks at a time. Speedify 17.2 also includes general performance optimizations.
How to Update to Speedify 17.2
Speedify 17.2 is out for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and OpenWrt. Update every device you use Speedify on, routers included.
