Which Starlink Plan Works on a Boat

Residential plans are for one fixed address, so they don’t cover a boat on the move. Starlink’s Roam plans (Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB, Roam Unlimited) and Priority plans work on the move. Starlink Maritime is Starlink’s service for vessels at sea, and its plans include Personal Maritime. Plan names vary by country.

If the internet on a superyacht or charter boat has to be reliable, the plan matters. When the Starlink network is busy, Priority plans are served first, ahead of Residential and Roam plans. Priority plans list 135 to 310 Mbps down and 20 to 44 Mbps up.

What Slows Starlink Down on a Boat

Heavy weather weakens the signal. A boat that rocks or turns can put masts, sails or the superstructure between the Starlink dish and the sky. Your Starlink dish also switches satellites about every 15 seconds, which causes short drops. On a ferry or a boat with many guests, everyone shares the same Starlink internet connection.

Near the coast or in a marina, a 4G/5G cellular internet connection can fill those gaps.
