Future-Proof Your Business' internet Connectivity

The Speedify Bonding Protocol: Advantages Over Multipath TCP (MPTCP)

The Speedify protocol is engineered to deliver reliable, high-performance connectivity by bonding multiple internet links (e.g. Wi-Fi, Ethernet, cellular, satellite) and transmitting encrypted traffic over them via multiple TCP/UDP/HTTP(s) sockets.

Rather than relying on a single socket per link, Speedify creates multiple parallel sockets per connection - up to 8 sockets per link - enabling a single physical connection (e.g. Wi-Fi) to carry more throughput and be more resilient to packet loss or latency.

At any given moment, Speedify monitors each available link for latency, packet loss, and throughput, dynamically distributing traffic based on link quality, user preferences (cost, latency, metered vs non-metered), and overall optimization goals.

How Speedify's Protocol Works

For each available internet source (e.g. Wi-Fi, 4G/5G, Ethernet), Speedify establishes multiple TCP (or UDP/HTTPS) sockets instead of a single one. This increases parallelism at the transport layer, allowing better utilization of high-speed or high-latency links.

If one socket experiences packet loss or latency spikes, only the packets on that socket are affected. Other sockets continue transmitting unaffected data, reducing the performance impact of unstable links. When a socket’s performance remains poor, Speedify can reassign its remaining packets to better-performing sockets.

This “multi-socket bonding + dynamic link management” ensures that aggregate throughput, latency, and reliability remain optimized — even when some links are degraded or drop completely.

Additionally, Speedify employs a component called Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) that accelerates TCP traffic over high-latency or lossy links (e.g. satellite, cellular). PEP re-packages outgoing TCP traffic into Speedify’s optimized transport protocol, then reassembles it at the server side. This mitigates the inefficiencies that standard TCP would suffer under adverse conditions.

Benefits for Enterprise & Distributed Teams / Product Infrastructure

For CTOs, product owners and business leaders managing distributed infrastructure, remote teams or globally dispersed users — the architectural advantages of Speedify’s protocol translate into:

  • Consistent performance across heterogeneous networks: Whether users are on cellular, Wi-Fi, satellite or Ethernet, Speedify dynamically adapts to deliver the best usable throughput and minimal latency.
  • Resilience against link failure or variability: Unlike single-path VPNs or MPTCP-based bonding (which degrade under packet loss/latency), Speedify maintains encryption, connectivity, and throughput, minimizing interruptions for video conferencing, remote operations, data sync, etc.
  • Flexible deployment across platforms & device types: Broad OS/device support ensures that infrastructure works regardless of device type or operating system - useful for BYOD scenarios, remote contractors, and global teams.
  • Bandwidth optimization and cost control: By prioritizing non-metered / wired / Wi-Fi links over cellular or metered ones, Speedify helps control data costs while maximizing performance.
  • Simplified networking architecture: Instead of requiring specialized hardware or complex MPTCP configurations at each end, Speedify delivers a software-based bonding + encryption layer, reducing infrastructure overhead and easing rollout across an organization.

Speedify's Bonding Protocol Overview

See how Speedify's traffic distribution algorithms transport and protect internet traffic under the hood

Unlike round-robin schemes that treat all paths equally, Speedify's bonding algorithm weighs packet distribution decisions based on current path quality. The Speedify system accounts for:

Latency variance: Packets are preferentially routed through lower-latency paths to minimize out-of-order delivery at the receiver, reducing reassembly overhead

Asymmetric capacity: Paths with higher throughput capacity receive proportionally more traffic to maximize aggregate utilization

Loss characteristics: Paths experiencing elevated packet loss receive reduced traffic allocation or redundant packet transmission depending on application requirements

Cost considerations: User-defined policies can restrict expensive interfaces (metered cellular) to overflow traffic or backup scenarios

This results in typical efficiency rates approaching 95% of theoretical aggregate capacity under optimal conditions.

Speedify's Bonding Protocol: Get the Best Optimized Connectivity

Speedify's protocol uses multiple sockets per internet connection, enabling higher throughput even on a single link with high capacity or latency.

With its native AES-256 / ChaCha20 with DTLS encryption, the smart bonding protocol takes link quality handling to the next level, rerouting packets dynamically across sockets / links, minimizing the impact of packet loss, latency or link dropouts.

For environments with heterogenous networks - users switching between 5G / 4G cellular, Wi-Fi, satellite, Ethernet, etc.

For secure applications, where encryption is needed alongside bonding

For remote contractors, global teams, roaming users and everything in between

For operating environments with variable connectivity (mobility, remote locations)
