Speedify's Pair & Share feature implements distributed cellular connection pooling across multiple devices within a local network. Rather than each device operating with isolated network interfaces, the system creates a mesh topology where participating devices can simultaneously consume bandwidth from multiple peer cellular connections while contributing their own.

Speedify Peer Discovery and Pairing

Devices, such as smartphones, tablets, computers, routers, establish peer relationships through a one-time pairing process on the same Layer 2 network segment (Wi-Fi network). Once paired, the relationship persists across sessions and network changes, requiring no repeated authentication.

The pairing mechanism:

  • Operates over local network broadcast / multicast for peer discovery
  • Establishes encrypted peer-to-peer tunnels between paired devices
  • Maintains a trust relationship that survives network transitions
  • Supports up to N paired devices within a single sharing group (implementation limits apply).

Speedify Bidirectional Connection Sharing

Each participating device (smartphone, tablet, computer, router) functions simultaneously as both:

Connection provider: Shares its cellular interface (configured as personal hotspot) with peer devices at up to 10 Mbps per peer connection

Connection consumer: Receives and aggregates cellular bandwidth from all paired peer devices

This bidirectional model differentiates the implementation from traditional hotspot architectures where devices operate exclusively as either client or access point.

Speedify Devices Network Topology

The system creates a logical star topology where each device maintains direct encrypted tunnels to all paired peers. Traffic routing occurs as follows:

  1. Device A requires internet connectivity
  2. Device A establishes connections to its own cellular interface plus N peer cellular interfaces (through peer devices' hotspots)
  3. All connections are bonded through the standard channel bonding mechanism to Speedify aggregation servers
  4. Traffic is distributed across all available peer connections according to capacity and quality metrics

Speedify's Pair & Share Bandwidth Aggregation

With Speedify's new Pair & Share feature, easily share Cellular connections back and forth between multiple Speedify users or devices on the same Wi-Fi network for a stronger connection.

In a three-device scenario where each device has 20 Mbps cellular connectivity:

  • Device A shares 10 Mbps to peers, consumes 10 Mbps from each of 2 peers = 20 Mbps effective bandwidth
  • Device B shares 10 Mbps to peers, consumes 10 Mbps from each of 2 peers = 20 Mbps effective bandwidth
  • Device C shares 10 Mbps to peers, consumes 10 Mbps from each of 2 peers = 20 Mbps effective bandwidth

Each device achieves effective bandwidth equal to its native cellular capacity while providing redundancy. With asymmetric usage patterns (one device consuming heavily while others idle), the active device can utilize up to the sum of all peer contributions.

Field Operations

Scenario: Remote video transmission from locations with marginal cellular coverage

Implementation: Multiple team members pair devices at deployment location. Video uplink aggregates bandwidth from all available cellular connections, achieving sufficient bitrate for broadcast-quality transmission where individual connections are inadequate.

Benefit: Enables operations in areas where individual cellular capacity is insufficient. Provides redundancy against single-connection failures during critical transmissions.

Mobile Workforce

Scenario: Video conferencing from transportation environments (vehicles, trains) with intermittent connectivity

Implementation: Multiple devices carried by the same user or team pair together. As connectivity fluctuates across cellular carriers and locations, the aggregate connection maintains stability.

Benefit: Reduces connection interruptions during client calls, remote presentations, and collaborative work sessions. Particularly valuable when connectivity reliability directly impacts revenue (sales calls, client service).
