Wi-Fi for Events Without Dropouts: Combine Venue Internet, 4G/5G Cellular and Starlink With Speedify

Event Wi-Fi Fails at the Internet Connection, Not the Access Points

A packed conference hall or trade show floor puts thousands of devices on one guest network at the same moment, and that is exactly when Wi-Fi tends to fall apart. Attendees refresh the event app, upload photos, and join video calls all at once, and the internet connection feeding the guest network, the uplink, chokes under network congestion long before the venue’s advertised bandwidth number is ever reached. Organizers who provisioned enough internet bandwidth on paper still watch registration kiosks freeze and sponsors lose signal mid-demo.

Speedify fixes this by giving the event network more than one path to the internet and using every path at once. Through Speedify’s channel bonding technology, Speedify combines Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, Ethernet, Starlink and other satellite internet connections into one bonded internet connection with up to 95% of the combined upload and download speed, instead of leaving backup internet connections idle until something fails.

With Speedify, your internet stays on when one connection fails.

Why Event Guest Wi-Fi Fails Under Load

Guest Wi-Fi at events rarely fails because of bad hardware. It fails because of a mismatch between how the network was planned and how attendees actually use it:

  • One uplink, thousands of devices. A single venue circuit or ISP handoff becomes a bottleneck the moment a keynote lets out.
  • Bursty demand. Photo uploads, live polling, and video streams all spike at once instead of spreading evenly across the day.
  • Temporary venues. Convention centers, hotels, and outdoor pop-up spaces often have thinner backhaul than a permanent office.
  • No fallback path. When the primary circuit saturates, there is nothing else for traffic to move to.

Why Adding Wi-Fi Access Points Doesn’t Fix Event Wi-Fi

Most event connectivity plans focus on Wi-Fi access points and ignore the uplink feeding the access points, which is the actual constraint. Adding more access points does nothing if every access point shares the same single internet feed.

How Speedify Fixes Event Wi-Fi by Combining Venue Internet, 4G/5G and Starlink

Speedify runs on a supported router behind the guest-facing Wi-Fi. The router bonds every available uplink, whether that is a venue Ethernet drop, several 4G/5G cellular modems on different carriers, or a Starlink dish for outdoor events, into one bonded internet connection, and the venue’s access points serve guests from that router like any other Wi-Fi network.

Traffic from every connected guest device gets split across all of those uplinks simultaneously, so no single circuit carries the full load alone. If one uplink saturates or drops, Speedify shifts traffic to the remaining paths in milliseconds.

Guest traffic reaches the internet from the Speedify server’s public IP address, so an upload or a video call keeps the same session while the paths underneath change, instead of reconnecting. The same approach keeps uploads and video calls running at a busy booth, as in reliable internet at a trade show booth.

What Speedify Adds for Event Organizers

  • No single point of failure. The venue line, each cellular internet connection and Starlink all carry traffic, so one failure doesn’t take the guest network down.
  • Live visibility. The Speedify dashboard shows the speed, latency and packet loss of each internet connection, so a failing line shows up before guests complain.
  • One kit for every venue. The same router and plan move from event to event.

Redundant Mode for Keynote Streams and Card Payments

Some moments at an event cannot tolerate any disruption: a keynote livestream, a card payment at a merchandise table, a registration scan at the door. For these, run Speedify in Redundant mode on a device that stays off the guest network: a second router for the payment terminals and the registration desk, a phone running Speedify for a card reader that pairs with the phone, or the streaming computer itself.

Speedify Redundant mode sends the same traffic over every internet connection instead of splitting the traffic, so a payment or stream keeps moving even if one internet connection degrades mid-transaction. Speedify Redundant mode trades speed and extra cellular data for certainty, the right trade when a dropped session costs more than a few seconds of speed.

How Much Internet Speed an Event Needs

Size the event network for the busiest moment, not the average. Video is the heaviest common load: Zoom lists 3.0 Mbps down and 3.8 Mbps up for a 1080p video call. Fifty guests on 1080p calls at the same moment would need about 150 Mbps down and 190 Mbps up, before photo uploads and the event app.

Add up the upload and download speed of every internet connection you plan to bond, then compare the total with that peak. Speedify delivers up to 95% of the combined upload and download speed, so a venue line plus three 4G/5G cellular internet connections is sized by the sum of all four. Upload is usually the tighter limit at events, because cellular and Starlink upload speeds are lower than download speeds.

How to Set Up Bonded Guest Wi-Fi Before Doors Open

  1. List every internet connection available: the venue’s Ethernet line, 4G/5G cellular modems on at least two different carriers, and Starlink for outdoor sites.
  2. Install Speedify on a router, connect every internet connection to the router, and connect the venue’s Wi-Fi access points to the router. Confirm each internet connection shows as active in Speedify before doors open.
  3. Run the guest network in Speed mode. Put payment terminals and streaming computers on a second router, a phone or the streaming computer itself, running Speedify in Redundant mode.
  4. Set metered cellular internet connections to Secondary priority with a Secondary Threshold, so cellular data is used only when the venue line can’t keep up.
  5. Load test with the expected peak number of devices before the event starts.
  6. Download Speedify on any laptops or kiosks that need a separate bonded internet connection.

Wi-Fi for Outdoor Events: Starlink Plus 4G/5G

An outdoor site has no venue line, so the event network is built from what can be carried in: a Starlink dish and 4G/5G cellular internet connections on different carriers. Starlink adds capacity where a crowd overloads the nearby cell towers, and cellular covers the moments when a satellite passes behind a tree or a stage roof.

Place the Starlink dish with a clear view of the sky, away from the stage rigging, and check the obstruction map in the Starlink app before doors open. A router built for the field, such as the Miri X510, bonds up to 7 internet connections and runs on hot-swappable batteries, so the network can run without mains power.

Event Wi-Fi Rental vs. Speedify on Your Own Router: Costs Compared

Event Wi-Fi rental companies bring the hardware, the cellular SIMs and support, and price per day. Two published examples:

  • A US rental company: $995 per unit for one live day for up to 50 users, up to $2,795 for up to 150 users; seven live days on the 100-user unit cost $3,078.
  • A UK rental company: about £2,500 for a small event of 1 to 3 days, £10,000 to £15,000 for a medium event, and £300 to £500 a day for an on-site engineer.

With Speedify, you supply the router, the access points and the internet connections. You can buy or rent all of these. The Miri X510 bonded router, for example, is listed at $1,995 with 90 days of the Speedify 1 TB a month plan included, or rents from $499 with 10 GB of cellular data included and $6 for each extra GB. You will also pay for a Speedify router plan: $30 for a month with 1 TB of data or $45 for a month with 3 TB, billed monthly, or from $129 a year on yearly plans. Guest traffic through the router counts toward the plan’s monthly data, so choose the plan by expected traffic. The same router and plan cover every event in that month.

Cellular data is a separate cost from your carriers, while a rental’s price already includes the rental company’s data. The trade-off: a rental is turnkey for a single event, while Speedify suits teams that run events often, want to use the venue line and the team’s own cellular plans, or need Starlink at outdoor sites. Prices as published by each company in October 2026.

What Bonding and Speedify Can’t Do for Event Wi-Fi

Bonding cannot exceed the sum of what the underlying internet connections can deliver. Speedify needs at least two working uplinks for bonding, and no combination of software makes a venue’s total available bandwidth larger than what those internet connections physically provide.

Event Guest Wi-Fi: FAQ

How many cellular hotspots can Speedify combine for one event network?
Speedify bonds as many cellular internet connections as the router supports, commonly two to four modems across different carriers alongside any venue Ethernet line.

Does Speedify replace the venue’s Wi-Fi access points?
Speedify does not replace access points. Speedify bonds the internet uplinks feeding those access points, so the existing Wi-Fi hardware serves guests over a stronger, combined internet connection.

What happens if one uplink drops mid-event?
Speedify fails over to the remaining working uplinks in milliseconds, so guest sessions and live streams continue without a manual restart.

Is guest traffic encrypted when Speedify bonds multiple internet connections?
Speedify encrypts all bonded traffic under a strict no-logs policy, so data crossing venue Wi-Fi, cellular, or satellite paths stays private.

Do guests need to install anything?
No. Guests connect to the venue’s Wi-Fi as usual. Speedify runs only on the router behind the access points, and on any device that needs a separate bonded internet connection.

How much does event Wi-Fi with Speedify cost?
The Speedify router plan costs $30 for a month with 1 TB of data or $45 with 3 TB, billed monthly. The router, the access points and the cellular plans are separate costs; a Miri X510 router is listed at $1,995, or rents from $499. Event Wi-Fi rental vs. Speedify on your own router compares the two.

How many guests can one Speedify router handle?
The limit is the combined speed of the internet connections and the router’s own capacity, which varies by model, rather than a fixed number of guests. Size the event by the peak load: about 3 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up for each guest on a 1080p video call, and far less for browsing and messaging.

Can Speedify work at an outdoor event with no venue internet?
Yes. Bond Starlink with 4G/5G cellular internet connections on different carriers. Wi-Fi for outdoor events covers the setup.
