3 Steps to Join Starlink Internet and Wi-Fi on a Mac
Step 1: Connect to Your Starlink Wi-Fi Hotspot
First, set up your Starlink with the instructions that came in the box. This includes your Starlink Wi-Fi network name and password.
On your Mac, click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and turn Wi-Fi on if it is off. Choose your Starlink Wi-Fi network and enter its password to connect.
Step 2: Connect a USB Wi-Fi Adapter to Your Second Wi-Fi Network
A USB Wi-Fi adapter only works on a Mac with an Intel processor running macOS 11 Big Sur. Adapter drivers do not run on Macs with Apple chips (M1 and newer) or on macOS 12 Monterey and newer. On those Macs, connect the router of your second network with an Ethernet cable instead.
You need a compatible USB Wi-Fi adapter and the drivers or software from its manufacturer. Steps vary by make and model.
Connect the USB Wi-Fi adapter to a USB port on your Mac. Install the adapter's drivers and its wireless utility, then restart your Mac if the installer asks.
Open the wireless utility, turn the adapter on, and choose a Wi-Fi network from the list. For a private network, you need its password.
To confirm the adapter is connected, open System Preferences > Network and look for the adapter in the list on the left.
NOTE: If your Mac has an Apple chip (M1 or newer) or runs macOS Monterey (version 12) or newer, a USB Wi-Fi adapter won’t work, because the adapters have no Mac drivers for these Macs. Here are other ways to add a second internet connection:
- If the second Wi-Fi network comes from your own router at home, connect your Mac to that router with an Ethernet cable instead.
- If the second Wi-Fi network is a public hotspot, connect your Mac to the Starlink router with an Ethernet cable and join the hotspot with your Mac’s own Wi-Fi. Older Starlink routers need the Starlink Ethernet Adapter for this. A tethered iPhone also works as your second internet connection.
Step 3: Download and Install Speedify
