How Starlink Works on Cruise Ships
Starlink Maritime is Starlink’s internet service for ships. Its satellites are much closer to Earth than the satellites older ship internet uses, so it has less delay and more speed. That makes video calls and streaming possible on board.
Cruise ships usually install several Starlink dishes to serve passengers and crew. Even so, hundreds of people share the same Starlink internet connection, so it slows down at busy times of day. Rough seas, bad weather and the moment a Starlink dish switches between satellites can also cause slowdowns or short dropouts.
