Speedify LIVE Office Hours: Q&A with the Developers

July 13, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

"Ask Me Anything" with the Speedify Developers

On the 104th episode of Speedify LIVE we hold our weekly Office Hours with Speedify developer, Mike Kane to talk about our upcoming release.

As usual, we also take viewer questions about how we choose the “Fastest Server”, how we develop and test Speedify for releases, and how it differs from other VPNs on the market.

Here are our 5 takeaways from our Office Hours:

  1. Speedify 12.3 is coming! As per usual, we’re including a lot of stability and speed fixes, improvements to our Bypass feature, and other under-the-hood adjustments that are well worth updating for!
  2. When it comes to increasing your connection speeds, Speedify looks at a few things: where you’re located, what server you connect to, what Priorities your connections are set to, etc. For the best performance, make sure to connect to the Fastest Server option, and that your connections are on the same Priority so they’re used equally and can be actively bonded.
  3. Speedify is developed on every possible platform! Our team uses Windows, MacOS and Linux to make sure that we develop, and test, Speedify on everything, using the same code even on iOS and Android.
  4. Speedify chooses the Fastest Server for you based on a couple things: we look at server availability, to make sure you don’t get assigned to a crowded server; we estimate your location based on IP and we test your connection against 5 nearby servers, and you get assigned to the one that’s the fastest with the least latency and packet loss.
  5. The stars next to your connections in Speedify represent the MOS or Mean Opinion Score. This is a standard rating that is based on latency, jitter and loss. It’s a measure of how good a connection is for voice calls.
When we're doing an actual release and we need to really test every feature that's coming, on the QA team, we have this big master sheet with every possible path that we can think of. And we run down the list and make sure nothing is broken.
