Set Up Speedify on Ubuntu to Bond Wi-Fi and Ethernet for Faster Internet Upload and Download Speeds
Ubuntu can use more than one internet connection at the same time, but it will not do it on its own. Speedify makes it happen. Speedify combines Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, Ethernet, Starlink and other satellite into one connection on Ubuntu, so a download, upload, or live stream pulls the speed of everything you have plugged in, and stays online if one connection drops.
Speedify’s channel bonding technology uses up to 95% of the combined capacity across your connections, with encryption on every one. Speedify supports Ubuntu, Debian, and Raspberry Pi OS on 32-bit or 64-bit ARM and on 64-bit Intel and AMD machines, which covers most laptops, desktops, and servers.
Quick answer
Should you have a backup 4G, 5G, Starlink, or cable internet connection?
Yes — every internet connection goes down, including Starlink, which drops for ~34 minutes a day on average. A backup connection from a different provider means one outage never takes you fully offline. The most common options are a 4G/5G cellular hotspot, a cable or DSL line, or a second satellite dish.
4G/5G cellular
Works anywhere. Just a SIM or hotspot — no installation needed.

Best for fixed locations. Different network, so outages rarely overlap.

Adds redundancy and throughput for remote sites or heavy usage.

Speedify gives you faster, steadier internet by combining Wi-Fi, cellular, and Starlink
Speedify bonds Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, Ethernet, and Starlink into one connection at the same time, giving you more speed, automatic failover when one drops, and AES-256 encryption on every link.
Download Speedify ›More speed
Upload and download speeds combine across every active connection on your device.
Automatic failover
If a connection drops, Speedify moves your traffic to another in milliseconds. Calls stay connected.
Always encrypted
Every link runs through an encrypted tunnel, including public Wi-Fi, cellular, and Starlink.
Speedify Feature · Pair & Share
Speedify Pair & Share: share cellular between your devices, both ways
Most hotspots give. Speedify's Pair & Share gives and takes. Two devices running Speedify pair up and each uses the other's cellular connection simultaneously, so you both get faster uploads, faster downloads, and a steadier connection. No extra hardware, no new data plans, no setup beyond a tap.
Learn how Speedify's Pair & Share works ›More speed
Every device you pair with adds its cellular to yours, and yours to theirs.
Stays connected
If a paired device drops out, Speedify keeps you online on the remaining links.
Always private
Every shared connection runs through AES-256 encryption. Your traffic is yours.
No new gear
Runs on devices already running Speedify, over your local network. Pair once, reconnects automatically.
How to Install Speedify on Ubuntu
- Open a terminal and run the install command. Speedify provides a single terminal command that downloads and installs the correct build for your system. On a desktop Ubuntu machine this includes the Speedify user interface; on every system it includes the command-line interface. Use the current command from Speedify’s Linux installation guide.
- Let the background service start. Speedify runs as a background service after installation, so it is ready as soon as the install finishes.
- Sign in. On a desktop, open the Speedify user interface and sign in. On a headless machine, sign in from the command line. Either way, encryption is on by default.

How to Bond Wi-Fi and Ethernet on Ubuntu
The whole point is using connections together. Plug in the connections you want Speedify to combine, then let Speedify bond them.
- Wi-Fi plus Ethernet. Connect to Wi-Fi and plug in an Ethernet cable at the same time. Speedify uses both, instead of Ubuntu picking one and ignoring the other.
- Add a USB connection. A USB Wi-Fi adapter, a USB Ethernet adapter, or a tethered Android phone or iPhone all work as extra connections for Speedify to bond.
- Set priorities if you want. Speedify lets you mark a metered connection, like cellular, as a backup so it only carries traffic when you need the extra capacity.
For a deeper look at sharing and bonding on the platform, see Speedify’s guide to Linux network bonding and sharing internet over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
UI or Command Line, Your Choice
On a desktop Ubuntu install you get the same Speedify interface available on Windows and macOS. You also always get the Speedify command-line interface, which can do everything the interface can from a terminal. If you would rather run Speedify with no desktop at all, that headless setup has its own guide.
Why Bond Connections on Ubuntu
A single connection is a single point of failure and a single speed ceiling. Speedify removes both. Two mediocre connections add up to one fast link, a dropped connection no longer drops your session, and real-time traffic like video calls and live streams gets priority. Combining links this way is a long-standing networking technique known as channel bonding. Speedify also doubles as a no-log VPN, so all of that traffic is encrypted on the way out.
Speedify on Ubuntu: FAQ
Which Linux distributions does Speedify support?
Speedify supports Ubuntu, Debian, and Raspberry Pi OS, on 32-bit and 64-bit ARM and on 64-bit Intel and AMD processors.
Can Speedify use Wi-Fi and Ethernet at the same time on Ubuntu?
Yes. That is what Speedify is for. It bonds both connections and uses up to 95% of their combined capacity.
Do I need a desktop to run Speedify on Ubuntu?
No. Desktop installs include the user interface, but Speedify also runs headless on a server, controlled entirely by the command-line interface.
Is my traffic encrypted?
Yes. Speedify is a no-log VPN and encrypts every connection by default.
