Why Is Youtube Blocked in Your School
YouTube and social media websites are generally blocked in schools and colleges. The network administrators at school assume that:
- you’re going to waste your time or
- you’re going to use too much bandwidth on these websites.
And so they usually block them.
Another reason for which you can’t watch YouTube videos at school is that it’s banned in your country. For example, if you live in China or Turkey, you won’t be able to access YouTube – not just in your school but everywhere else
However, YouTube runs in almost all countries. If you are able to access YouTube at home but not in school, it’s because your school has banned YouTube.
It can be frustrating. YouTube isn’t just a time-waster, it’s an excellent source of educational videos as well. Let’s see how we can get YouTube videos unblocked at school.
How to Unblock YouTube Videos at School
Method 1 – Use a proxy
A proxy website will let you open blocked websites by bypassing the school network restrictions. The problem is – most schools have banned proxy sites as well. Besides, some free proxies are infested with malware so if you’re caught using a proxy website, you might be punished.
Method 2 – Use Your Phone as a Wireless Hotspot
You’ll need a smartphone with tethering abilities to do this. Since most smartphones have this ability, there shouldn’t be a problem.
When you use your phone network, you’re able to bypass all restrictions posed by your school network. However, it does use your mobile data. Also, mobile networks might be slow and you may not be able to watch HD videos on YouTube.
Method 3 – Download the Video
Have you found an interesting video at home and want to show it to your classmates in school? You can download the video on your laptop and show it to your friends the next day.
There are some YouTube download services that will let you download the video to your device storage. You can find them on Google.
Method 4 – The Safest Method – Use a VPN
Of all the options to unblock YouTube at school, the safest method is to use a VPN.
A VPN service has a number of servers. When you connect to the VPN network, your traffic will be encrypted and redirected through the server you select. This means that nobody will be able to monitor your traffic.
When the network admins won’t be able to monitor your traffic, they won’t be able to apply filters on it. This means you can access YouTube and other blocked websites using a VPN.
There is one problem though – a regular VPN will slow down your internet connection. In this case, watching unblocked YouTube videos at school will become difficult.
The solution is to use a bonding VPN, that doesn’t slow down your internet speed, like Speedify.

Speedify works by combining two or more internet connections. When you’re in school, you can use Speedify to combine multiple Wi-Fi connections to get boosted speeds. Or use the school Wi-Fi and a cellular connection or tethered phone.
All you have to do is download the Speedify app and install it. You will get Speedify apps for all major platforms – Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Once installed, open the app and click on Connect. That’s it – you’ll be able to bypass the network restrictions and get superfast internet in no time.
