Speedify Makes Satellite Internet More Reliable for Your Business
Speedify bonds your satellite internet connection – Starlink, VSAT, or other satellite services – with 4G/5G cellular and other available internet connections so your business stays online when any single connection drops or degrades. Speedify’s channel bonding technology distributes your internet traffic across all active connections simultaneously, giving your team faster internet upload and download speeds and automatic failover without interrupting active sessions.
This article covers how Speedify improves satellite internet performance for businesses, what internet connection combinations work best, and how to deploy Speedify on your satellite-dependent network.
Why Satellite Internet Alone Is Not Enough for Business Operations
Satellite internet, particularly Starlink, has transformed connectivity for businesses operating in remote offices, construction sites, agricultural operations, maritime vessels, and any location beyond the reach of fiber optic or wired broadband infrastructure. Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit network delivers download speeds between 100 and 220 Mbps with latency as low as 25 ms, making it a viable primary internet connection for most business workloads.
But satellite internet has inherent reliability limitations that wired broadband does not:
- Satellite handoffs cause brief micro-outages as the dish transitions between satellites. These can last milliseconds to seconds but disrupt real-time applications like VoIP calls and video conferencing.
- Weather events like heavy rain, snow, and dense cloud cover can degrade or temporarily drop satellite signal strength.
- Dish obstruction from trees, structures, or equipment causes unpredictable signal dropouts.
- Satellite network congestion during peak hours reduces available upload and download speeds for all users in an area.
- Satellite hardware failures leave your entire operation without internet access until a replacement unit arrives, which at a remote site can take days.
For businesses where internet connectivity has a direct operational cost, running on a single satellite internet connection is a single point of failure.
How Speedify Improves Satellite Internet for Business
Speedify’s channel bonding technology monitors all active internet connections simultaneously – Starlink and other satellite, 4G/5G cellular, Wi-Fi, and wired Ethernet – and distributes your business’s internet traffic across them in real time based on their current performance in terms of speed, latency and jitter. Speedify adjusts routing decisions at the packet level every few milliseconds.
When Speedify detects that your satellite internet connection is degrading or has dropped, it automatically shifts all traffic to your other active connections. Because Speedify operates at the packet level, not the session level, active VoIP calls, video conferences, file transfers, and VPN sessions continue without interruption.
When all connections are healthy, Speedify uses them all simultaneously, giving your team up to 95% of their combined upload and download throughput.

Satellite Internet Configurations with Speedify That Get You the Fastest Internet Upload and Download Speeds Plus Internet Connection Reliability
- Starlink plus 4G/5G cellular. The most common and effective configuration for most businesses. Speedify bonds Starlink with one or more 4G/5G cellular connections from different carriers. When Starlink drops, 4G/5G cellular takes over instantly at the packet level. When both connections are healthy, Speedify uses both simultaneously for faster upload and download speeds. This configuration works on any device running the Speedify app or at the network level on a Speedify-compatible router.
- Two Starlink dishes. Running two Starlink dishes bonded with Speedify eliminates the single-dish failure risk. When one Starlink dish loses signal, due to obstruction, satellite handoff, or hardware failure, the second Starlink continues without interruption. Speedify distributes traffic across both dishes when both are working. This configuration is appropriate for remote sites where 4G/5G cellular coverage is absent or unreliable. Note that two Starlink dishes still share the same satellite network infrastructure: a widespread Starlink outage will affect both connections simultaneously. For full redundancy, pairing Starlink with a different internet connection type is the more reliable approach.
- Starlink / satellite as failover for wired broadband. For businesses with a primary wired broadband connection, Speedify can hold Starlink in standby as a failover internet connection. Speedify keeps the Starlink connection active and monitored but routes the majority of traffic through the primary wired internet connection. If the wired connection degrades or drops, Speedify shifts traffic to Starlink automatically.
- Starlink plus VSAT or other satellite. Maritime businesses and remote operations that run both a Starlink dish and a VSAT or Leo satellite system can bond both with Speedify. Speedify manages traffic across all satellite connections simultaneously, providing redundancy even when both connections rely on satellite infrastructure.
- Multi-connection deployments for maximum redundancy. For operations where internet downtime has safety or financial consequences, like offshore platforms, emergency services, remote healthcare, live production, Speedify can bond Starlink, 4G/5G cellular from multiple carriers, and wired Ethernet simultaneously. All internet connections work together for maximum upload and download throughput and maximum redundancy.
How to Deploy Speedify on Your Satellite Internet Network
Option 1: Speedify for Routers: network-wide coverage
- Connect your Starlink dish and your backup internet connection to a Speedify-compatible router running OpenWrt or a Miri X510 bonding router. The Miri X510 is a purpose-built bonding router powered by Speedify designed for field and remote deployments.
- Install Speedify on the router using the Speedify install script and activate your Router License. Configure all internet connections as WAN interfaces in the router.
- Set Starlink as your primary Always connection and 4G/5G cellular as your secondary or Backup connection, depending on your data plan. Speedify manages internet failover automatically.
- Every device on your network benefits from bonded satellite internet immediately, with no per-device software required.
Option 2: Speedify Teams: per-device for staff
- Create a Speedify Teams account and invite staff from the Teams Dashboard.
- Each staff member installs the Speedify app and connects to the satellite internet connection plus any available 4G/5G cellular connection on their device.
- Speedify bonds both connections automatically on each device. Manage priorities and monitor usage from the centralized Teams Dashboard.

Which Businesses Need Speedify when Using Satellite Internet
- Remote offices and field operations. Any business operating beyond wired broadband coverage depends on satellite internet as its primary connection. Speedify eliminates the single point of failure and keeps the team online through satellite outages.
- Construction sites and infrastructure projects. Construction teams in the field rely on real-time data: project management platforms, video conferencing with architects and engineers, equipment monitoring. Speedify keeps these sessions online through satellite signal interruptions.
- Agricultural operations. Farms and agricultural businesses in rural locations with no access to fiber optic or wired broadband depend on satellite internet for connectivity. Speedify bonds Starlink with 4G/5G cellular for reliable internet across large properties.
- Maritime and offshore operations. Vessels and offshore platforms operating beyond 4G/5G cellular range depend on Starlink Maritime or VSAT for connectivity. Speedify bonds multiple satellite connections and manages failover at the packet level so operational systems and crew communications stay online.
- Emergency services and disaster response. First responders deploying to areas with damaged infrastructure depend on satellite internet for field communications. Speedify bonds satellite with 4G/5G cellular for maximum redundancy in degraded conditions.
- Remote healthcare and telemedicine. Clinics in areas without wired broadband need internet connectivity that stays up during satellite outages. Speedify keeps telehealth sessions running without requiring the session to restart when the satellite connection drops.
