How Starlink Helps Delivery Drivers Who Lose Cellular Coverage
Delivery drivers need the internet for every package: scanning barcodes, confirming drop-offs, updating route status and messaging dispatch. When cellular coverage drops on a rural road, those apps stop. The driver either waits for a signal or keeps going without confirmations, which leaves gaps in delivery records and customer updates.
Starlink covers the rural and remote areas where cellular drops out. A delivery vehicle with a Starlink dish made for use on the move (see Starlink for vehicles) keeps its internet connection with no cell tower in range. Residential plans are for one fixed address, so vehicles need a plan that works on the move, like Roam or Priority.
Starlink has weak spots too: tunnels, dense trees and tall buildings block the sky. That’s why the vehicle is best off with both.
How Speedify Keeps Delivery Vehicles Online on Starlink and Cellular
Speedify runs on the router or tablet in each delivery vehicle and uses Starlink and 4G/5G cellular at the same time. When both are working, you get more speed than either one alone. When one weakens or drops, Speedify moves all traffic to the other on its own. Delivery apps, barcode scanners and navigation keep working on stretches where only one of the two has a signal. When the lost internet connection comes back, Speedify uses both again.
Speedify needs both internet connections for this. With Starlink alone, Speedify can’t add speed or keep a driver online through a tunnel.
Speedify also encrypts all internet traffic, which protects customer data, delivery records and messages with dispatch.
How to Set Up Speedify with Starlink in Delivery Vehicles
Step 1: Install a Starlink Dish on Each Delivery Vehicle
Mount a Starlink dish made for use on the move on each vehicle and connect it to the vehicle’s router. Check that the Starlink internet connection works in the Starlink app before the vehicle leaves on its route.
Step 2: Add a 4G/5G Cellular Modem to Each Vehicle
Connect a 4G/5G cellular modem to each vehicle’s router next to Starlink. Modems from more than one mobile carrier give better coverage across different delivery areas.
Step 3: Install Speedify on Each Vehicle’s Router or Tablet
Download Speedify and install it on each vehicle’s tablet, or on a compatible router. Speedify finds both internet connections and starts using them right away.
