Using Starlink and 5G at Once for Business: How Speedify Helps

Speedify Combines Your Starlink Internet Connection and 5G for Faster Upload and Download Speeds and Better Reliability for Your Business

Does Starlink use 5G? No. Starlink is satellite internet: your Starlink dish connects to satellites, not to 5G cell towers. That’s what makes Starlink plus 5G such a strong pair for business internet. The two run on separate networks and fail for different reasons.

Speedify, software for your computers, phones and routers, uses your Starlink internet connection and your 5G cellular connection at the same time, so you get close to their combined speed, and switches your traffic to the other one when either drops. Speedify works with Ethernet and Wi-Fi too, with no special hardware. Contact the Speedify team to plan your deployment.

Why Starlink Plus 5G Makes Strong Business Internet

Starlink and 5G do different jobs well and fail for different reasons. That’s what makes using them together practical for a business that needs both speed and an internet connection that doesn’t go down.

Starlink says its downloads run 45 to 280 Mbps, with most users over 100 Mbps, and a Starlink dish works in places where no 5G tower reaches. 5G cellular usually has less delay than Starlink, which suits calls and other live apps. 5G doesn’t care about storms over the Starlink dish or trees in its view. Starlink doesn’t care about a crowded 5G tower or a cut fiber line.

Where a business has both 5G coverage and Starlink, using both with Speedify gives the network:

  • More upload and download speed than Starlink or 5G gives alone
  • Less delay on average, because Speedify can send calls and other live traffic over whichever internet connection is quicker at each moment
  • A full backup, on two completely separate networks

Where 5G coverage is patchy, strong indoors but weak at the edge of the coverage area for example, Starlink gives the business a steady floor of speed that keeps work going when 5G weakens.

How Speedify Combines Starlink and 5G Internet Connections

Speedify keeps Starlink and 5G cellular in use at the same time and checks the speed, delay and lost data on each one every few milliseconds.

All your internet traffic goes through one encrypted Speedify connection. Along the way, Speedify splits it in small pieces across Starlink and 5G, sending each piece over whichever internet connection is doing better at that moment. The result:

  • A single internet phone call, video meeting or file upload uses Starlink and 5G at the same time, for close to their combined upload and download speed.
  • When either internet connection fails, Speedify moves all traffic to the one that works right away. Nothing restarts: no dropped calls, no disconnected video meetings.

Speedify needs both internet connections to do this. With Starlink alone, Speedify can’t add speed or stop Starlink’s short drops.

Ways to Set Up Starlink and 5G with Speedify

  • Starlink first, 5G as backup. Speedify sends most traffic over Starlink and keeps 5G ready. 5G carries traffic automatically when Starlink weakens. Data use on the 5G plan stays low.
  • 5G first, Starlink as backup. For businesses with strong 5G coverage, where 5G is steadier than Starlink, Speedify uses 5G first and keeps Starlink ready. Starlink takes over automatically when the 5G tower is crowded or 5G goes down.
  • Both used all the time, for the most speed. Speedify spreads traffic across Starlink and 5G at the same time, and both add to your upload and download speed all the time. The right setup when speed matters most and 5G data costs don’t.
  • Starlink plus several 5G carriers. Where more than one carrier has 5G coverage, Speedify can use Starlink together with SIM cards from more than one carrier. When one carrier’s coverage is weak or crowded, the others and Starlink cover for it automatically.

How to Set Up Speedify to Use Starlink and 5G Cellular Together

Option 1: The Speedify App on Each Device

  • Connect your device to Starlink, through the Starlink Wi-Fi network or an Ethernet cable.
  • Connect your device to 5G cellular, through a 5G hotspot, a USB 5G modem, or the Wi-Fi network of a 5G cellular router.
  • Install the Speedify app. Speedify runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
  • Speedify finds both internet connections automatically and starts using them together. Set connection priorities and data limits in the Speedify app or the Speedify Teams dashboard.

Option 2: Speedify on a Router

  • Connect your Starlink dish and your 5G modem or router to a router that works with Speedify. The Miri X510 router, built to run Speedify, has several internet ports and works with 5G cellular modems.
  • Speedify uses Starlink and 5G together on the router. Every device on your business network gets the combined speed and the automatic switch, with no software to install on each device.
  • Set connection priorities and data limits, and see data use, from the Speedify for Routers dashboard.

Which Businesses Need Starlink Plus 5G with Speedify

  • City and suburban offices with an unreliable wired line. Businesses with 5G coverage but a wired line that keeps failing can use 5G and Starlink as two fast internet connections that don’t depend on the local cables.
  • Remote offices at the edge of 5G coverage. Where the 5G signal comes and goes, Starlink covers the gaps. Speedify balances the two automatically, with no switching by hand.
  • Work that needs a lot of upload and download speed. Video production, broadcasting, cloud backup and large file transfers get the combined speed of Starlink and 5G with Speedify. A single transfer can use both internet connections at once.
  • Work that needs little delay. When 5G works well, Speedify sends internet phone calls and video meetings over 5G. When the 5G tower gets crowded, Speedify moves that traffic to Starlink.
  • Businesses watching 5G data costs. Speedify Teams lets IT admins cap the 5G connection’s data each month. Starlink carries the traffic, and 5G steps in for backup and extra speed without going over the budget.

Speedify Plans for Starlink Plus 5G

Speedify Teams gives IT admins one dashboard to manage Starlink and 5G across the business: connection priorities, data limits, data use and devices. Speedify Teams costs $89.99 per user per year, with a 5-user minimum.

For businesses that need a private server, static IP addresses and port forwarding, Speedify Dedicated Servers are a managed option. For businesses with rules about where data must be kept, Speedify Self-Hosted Servers let your team run Speedify traffic through servers you own.

For businesses: Speedify can use Starlink and 5G together at every site and on every team device. Contact Us to plan the setup.

For homes and remote workers: Download Speedify and use Starlink together with your phone’s 5G.
