Simultaneously Use a 4G LTE Cellular Dongle with a Tethered iPhone for More Internet Speed and Stability
The quest for faster, more reliable Internet is never ending. If you’re in a spot with not Wi-Fi Internet and have a 3G / 4G LTE USB cellular dongle together with your trusty iPhone, you can use them together at the same time on your PC. This will get you faster, more reliable Internet.
All you need is a channel bonding (or link aggregation) software app like Speedify. In this article, we are going to walk you through the steps to combine a 4G LTE dongle with a tethered iPhone simultaneously on your PC.
Four Steps to Combine a 4G LTE Dongle with a Tethered iPhone on a PC Using Speedfy
Step 1: Install your 3G / 4G / LTE dongle on your PC.
Connect the dongle through a USB port to your PC. If running Windows 10, it’s highly possible it will automatically set up the connection for you. In order to confirm this, click on the computer / Wi-Fi icon in the lower right area of the taskbar (systray) and check if a “Cellular” tile shows up.
If this doesn’t happen, make sure you run the installer program provided to you along with the 3G / 4G dongle. This may be directly on the dongle – check out “My Computer” / “This PC” for any CD / removable drives and run the setup program. You may be required to restart your PC after setting this up.
Step 2: Connect to the Internet using the 3G / 4G dongle.
Make sure you run the proprietary software to connect to the Internet, if that exists. Usually it will be detected by your PC as a cellular connection or a Wi-Fi connection.
If you can’t connect, check to see if Windows installed a cellular adapter. Go to Network Connections (Windows key + X – “Network Connections”) and click on “Change adapter options” on the right. The 3G / 4G dongle should be listed there. If it’s not connected, click on “Diagnose this connection”.
If you still can’t connect to the Internet after troubleshooting this, contact your ISP / network provider.
Step 3: Tether your iPhone to your PC via Wi-Fi (most convenient), USB cable or Bluetooth.
As Wi-Fi tethering is most convenient as it requires no cables and no dedicated software on your PC, we’ll describe that procedure below. See more articles how to tether your iPhone to your PC using the USB cable or Bluetooth in our knowledge base.
First, create a Wi-Fi hotspot on your iPhone (Wi-Fi tethering).
To do this, go to Settings on your iPhone’s home screen and activate the Personal Hotspot option.
Next, configure the Wi-Fi hotspot on your iPhone.
When you go into the Personal Hotspot menu, you can also customize the Wi-Fi hotspot name (SSID) and password used by other devices to connect.
Last, but not least, connect your PC to the Wi-Fi network.
Click on the computer or Wi-Fi symbol in the lower right corner of the taskbar (systray). Turn on Wi-Fi by clicking on the tile in the lower side of the pop-up menu and select the Wi-Fi hotspot you set up on your iPhone. Enter your password and you’re good to go.
Step 4: Start Speedify on your PC and combine the 3G / 4G / LTE cellular dongle and tethered iPhone connections on your PC. When you launch Speedify, the software automatically detects the two connections. You will see them each contained in a Connection Bubble near the top of the Dashboard.
And presto! You’re combining connections with the magic of Channel Bonding for improved speed, reliability, and security. You are now free to go forth and browse the internet, stream videos, and use your apps as you normally would.
