Faster Internet: Use a Tethered iPhone Together with Your Mac’s Wi-Fi Connection Simultaneously with Speedify
Isn’t it just awful when your Wi-Fi Internet connection is slow and unreliable? If you’ve got an iPhone nearby, you can get rid of all the head aches: just tether it to your Mac and use both connections at the same time.
You will need a channel bonding (or link aggregation) app like Speedify to get you faster, more stable and secure Internet.
Read below to see the steps to combine Wi-Fi with a tethered iPhone on your Mac.
6 Steps to Use Wi-Fi and a Tethered iPhone at the Same Time on Your Mac
Step 1: Connect your Mac to a Wi-Fi network using your computer’s internal Wi-Fi card. This can be your home Wi-Fi network, a work network, or even a public network.
In many cases, you may already be connected. If you are not, click on the Wi-Fi symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the menu bar. Then turn Wi-Fi on and select your preferred network. Keep in mind, private networks may require you to enter a password before connecting.
Step 2: Turn on your iPhone’s Personal Hotspot. To do this, open the Settings app and tap Personal Hotspot. Then toggle the switch on.
Step 3: Ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your Mac.
Step 4: Connect (or “tether”) your iPhone to you Mac using a USB cable. When you do this, iTunes should immediately recognize your device. If an alert appears asking if you “Trust this Computer,” tap Trust.
If you prefer, you can also tether your iPhone to your Mac using Bluetooth. Learn how here.
Step 5: Now it’s time to get you connected! Open System Preferences on your Mac. Then click Network and select iPhone USB. If you don’t see it, click to add it. Since you are already connected to Wi-FI, your Personal Hotspot connection might not activate until you uncheck “Disable unless needed” under Status.
Step 6: Combine connections by turning on Speedify. When you launch Speedify, the software automatically detects the Wi-Fi and tethered phone connections. You will see them each contained in a Connection Bubble near the top of the Dashboard.
And presto! You’re combining connections with the magic of Channel Bonding for improved speed, reliability, and security. You are now free to go forth and browse the internet, stream videos, and use your apps as you normally would.
