Tether Your iPhone to a PC and Use It Together with the Wi-Fi Connection at Once for Better Internet
Often times Wi-Fi internet can be a pain – from slow speeds to unstable connections or even plain bad hotspots where you don’t get a single Megabyte of traffic. If you’ve got slow and unreliable Wi-Fi internet on your PC, get a hold of your iPhone and use it wisely. Combine Wi-Fi and your tethered iPhone on your PC simultaneously with a channel bonding (or link aggregation) software app like Speedify. In this article, we are going to walk you through the steps to combine Wi-Fi and a 4G LTE dongle on your Mac.
3 Steps to Combine Wi-Fi and a Tethered iPhone at the Same Time on Your PC
Step 1: Connect to a Wi-Fi network using the internal Wi-Fi network adapter or an external USB Wi-Fi adapter. See more about how to make sure you have a Wi-Fi card installed in this article.
The network you’re connecting to can be your home Wi-Fi network, a work network, or even a public network.
Click on the computer or Wi-Fi symbol in the lower right corner of the taskbar (systray). If you’re not already connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, turn on Wi-Fi by clicking on the tile in the lower side of the pop-up menu and select your preferred network. Keep in mind, private networks may require you to enter a password before connecting.
Step 2: Tether your iPhone to your PC via Wi-Fi, USB cable or Bluetooth.
As your PC’s Wi-Fi card is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, we’ll describe how to tether your iPhone via USB below.
First, download the latest version of iTunes for Windows on your PC, install the program and run it.
Then, activate the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone.
To do this, tap Settings from your home screen and go to Personal Hotspot.
Connect your iPhone to your PC via the USB cable. You should see the iPhone listed on the left side of the iTunes window, under “Devices”.
If your iPhone is not detected, on your PC open Device Manager > Other Devices > iPhone. Right click on it and choose “Update Driver” > Search Automatically. Windows will install the latest driver.
If after the installation iTunes still doesn’t detect the iPhone, restart your PC and try again.
Finally, make sure your PC connected successfully to your tethered iPhone.
On your computer, the tethered connection will appear as a wired connection, having a computer icon in the lower right section of the taskbar (systray). Click on that computer icon and you should see a wired connection named “Network X” which should be connected. That is your tethered iPhone.
Step 3: Start Speedify on your PC and combine the Wi-Fi and tethered iPhone. When you launch Speedify, the software automatically detects the two connections. You will see them each contained in a Connection Bubble near the top of the Dashboard.
And presto! You’re combining connections with the magic of Channel Bonding for improved speed, reliability, and security. You are now free to go forth and browse the internet, stream videos, and use your apps as you normally would.
