Starlink Google Maps Slow? See How Speedify Keeps Google Maps Loading

Google Maps is slow on Starlink, with map areas that stay blurry or directions that take a long time to load, when your Starlink internet connection slows down or has short drops: when something blocks your Starlink dish’s view of the sky, when your phone or computer has a weak Wi-Fi signal, or when your Starlink dish switches satellites.

You can fix most of this yourself, and an offline map keeps your directions working even when Starlink drops. For the rest, use Starlink together with your phone’s 4G/5G cellular data, and Speedify keeps Google Maps loading when Starlink dips. If Google Maps says it has no network connection, see how to fix the Google Maps no network error.

Starlink Internet Connection Drops Happen to Everyone

Speedify measures thousands of Starlink users in more than 140 countries. In September 2026, fixed Starlink dishes went offline for about 38 minutes a day on average, and Starlink dishes on RVs and boats for about 46 minutes a day.

All Starlink dishes also see short dropouts roughly every 15 seconds as the Starlink internet connection switches from one moving satellite to the next. Even a perfectly installed Starlink dish goes offline, and about 7 in 10 Starlink users on Speedify use Starlink together with a second internet connection, like 4G/5G cellular.

Check Whether Starlink or Google Maps Is the Problem

Open the Starlink app. If it shows your Starlink dish offline or obstructed, the problem is the Starlink dish or its view of the sky (check your Starlink status). If the Starlink app shows Online, turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and open Google Maps on cellular data. If the map loads fast on cellular, the slowdown is on the Starlink side. If it’s slow on cellular too, close and reopen Google Maps and update it.

Fix Slow Google Maps on Starlink

  • Download an offline map before you rely on it. In the Google Maps app, tap your profile picture, then Offline maps, and choose the area. Google Maps then shows that area and gives driving directions without any internet connection. This matters most if you travel with a Starlink Mini or a Starlink dish on an RV or boat.
  • Switch the map back to Default. The Satellite map type loads photos of the ground, which take much longer than the plain map when your internet connection is slow. Tap the layers button on the map to switch.
  • Clear what blocks your Starlink dish’s view of the sky. Even if nothing covers the Starlink dish itself, a tree or part of your roof off to the side can block the view as the satellites move overhead. The obstruction map in the Starlink app shows where.
  • Use Google Maps closer to the Starlink router. Walls and floors weaken Wi-Fi quickly, so a map that loads fine next to the router can stay blurry two rooms away.
  • Know which drops you can’t fix. Your Starlink dish switches satellites about every 15 seconds, and a drop while Google Maps loads leaves parts of the map blank or blurry.

Keep Google Maps Loading on Starlink by Adding Cellular Data with Speedify

For the short drops, use a second internet connection at the same time as Starlink: your phone’s 4G/5G cellular data, another Starlink dish or a DSL line, whatever you have.

Speedify is the only app that combines all of your internet connections to keep you online when it matters most. Speedify sends your internet traffic over Starlink and your second internet connection at the same time, so maps and directions load from both. If Starlink drops, Speedify switches your traffic to the other internet connection automatically. Speedify needs that second internet connection: with Starlink alone, it can’t add speed or stop the drops.

Download Speedify on your phone or computer. On a phone, Speedify uses your Starlink Wi-Fi and your cellular data together, with no extra hardware. To save cellular data, set cellular to Backup in the Speedify app: Speedify then uses it only when Starlink drops. A computer or tablet with no cellular plan can use your phone’s cellular data through Speedify’s cellular sharing: put them on the same Wi-Fi, install Speedify on both, and pair them in the Speedify app.
