Channel Bonding for Managed Service Providers: Use Speedify to Deploy and Manage Bonded Internet Connections Across Client Sites

How MSPs Deploy Bonded Internet Across Client Sites from One Dashboard

Speedify gives managed service providers a centralized platform to deploy, manage, and monitor channel bonding internet connectivity across multiple clients from a single dashboard. MSPs can provision client accounts via REST API, monitor per-device connection performance, set connection priorities and data limits, and scale deployments from a single client to hundreds without additional management overhead.

This article covers how Speedify fits into an MSP service stack, what tools are available for MSP management, and how to get started.

The Internet Reliability Problem MSP Clients Face

Professional services firms, retail locations, healthcare clinics, construction sites, remote offices and branch operations all share a common set of internet connectivity problems that MSPs are asked to solve:

  • A single ISP connection at a client location creates a single point of failure. When the wired broadband line goes down, the entire office loses internet access and every cloud application, VoIP system, and remote desktop session stops working until the ISP restores service.
  • Standard router-level failover (available in Meraki, Ubiquiti, and Peplink hardware) switches to a backup connection when the primary drops but resets every active session in the process. VoIP calls drop, video conferences disconnect, and cloud application sessions time out.
  • Remote and hybrid workers connecting from home broadband or 4G/5G cellular need their connections to be reliable enough for VoIP, video conferencing, and VPN access, which a single home broadband line often can’t guarantee.
  • Clients in locations with no fiber optic or wired broadband access need a viable internet solution beyond a single 4G/5G cellular connection.

Speedify addresses all of these scenarios with software-based channel bonding that works on hardware the client already owns, managed centrally by the MSP through the Speedify Teams platform.

How Speedify Works for MSP Deployments

Speedify’s channel bonding technology bonds multiple internet connections (wired Ethernet broadband, Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, and Starlink and other satellite) simultaneously on a client’s device or network.

Speedify monitors all active connections in real time and distributes internet traffic across them based on latency, packet loss, and available bandwidth. If any connection fails, Speedify shifts traffic to the remaining connections at the packet level without resetting active sessions.
For MSPs, the key capabilities are:

  • Speedify Teams Dashboard. A web-based management console where the MSP can manage all client users and devices, monitor connection performance per device, view usage analytics, and manage billing. The dashboard gives MSPs visibility into each client’s internet connectivity status without requiring on-site access.
  • REST API for automated provisioning. The Speedify Teams API is a REST API that allows MSPs to create and remove users, query usage data, and push configuration to devices programmatically. MSPs managing multiple clients can use the API to automate onboarding, user provisioning, and reporting without manual console work.
  • No minimum user requirement. Speedify Teams has no minimum seat count. An MSP can create a single-user account for a small client and scale to a large deployment on the same platform.
  • 100% uptime SLA. Speedify Teams includes a service level agreement: for each hour that Speedify’s server infrastructure is down, the client receives one day of free service. MSPs can pass this SLA commitment to clients as part of their managed connectivity offering.

Speedify Deployment Options for MSP Client Environments

  • Speedify for Routers: client network-wide coverage. Deploy Speedify on a Miri X510 bonding router or a compatible OpenWrt router at the client location. Connect the client’s primary wired broadband and a 4G/5G cellular backup connection to the router. Every device on the client’s network benefits from channel bonding and automatic failover. No per-device software installation required. The router deployment covers all devices at the location, including devices that cannot run software clients, such as IP phones, printers, and IoT equipment.
  • Speedify Teams: per-device for remote and hybrid workers. Install Speedify on remote and hybrid worker devices. Each device bonds available connections (home broadband Wi-Fi plus 4G/5G cellular) independently. Manage all devices from the Speedify Teams Dashboard. This is the right deployment model for clients with distributed workforces where the MSP needs to ensure connectivity quality for each individual worker rather than just each office location.
  • Dedicated Speed Servers for clients requiring static IPs. For clients with applications that require IP whitelisting (finance systems, healthcare portals, secure remote access gateways), add a Speedify Dedicated Speed Server to the client’s Teams account. The Dedicated Server provides a static IPv4 address and port forwarding, with up to 1 Gbps throughput and 3 TB of monthly bandwidth. Speedify manages server maintenance and updates.
  • Self-Hosted Servers for clients with data residency requirements. For clients in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, legal) with requirements to keep data on specific infrastructure, a Speedify Self-Hosted Server allows the MSP or client to run Speedify traffic through privately controlled infrastructure on any cloud provider or physical hardware. The Enterprise license supports up to 1,000 simultaneous sessions.

How MSPs Get Started with Speedify

  • Create a Speedify Teams account. Speedify Teams has no minimum user requirement, so you can start with a single client and scale at any time.
  • Add client users from the Teams Dashboard or via the Speedify Teams REST API. Users receive an invitation email with instructions to install and sign in to the Speedify app on their device.
  • For router deployments, install Speedify on a compatible OpenWrt router or Miri X510 at the client location and activate a Router License. Connect the client’s available internet connections as WAN inputs. Speedify begins bonding them automatically.
  • Set connection priorities for each client deployment from the Teams Dashboard: primary wired broadband to Always, 4G/5G cellular backup to Backup. Speedify manages failover automatically from that point forward.
  • For clients requiring static IP access, add a Dedicated Speed Server to the client’s Teams account from the Subscription Management portal.
  • Monitor all client devices, usage statistics, and connection performance from the centralized Teams Dashboard. Use the REST API to generate automated reports and manage user accounts across multiple client accounts.

MSP Client Types That Benefit From Speedify

  • Professional services firms. Law firms, accounting practices, and consultancies where staff are on VoIP calls and video conferences throughout the day need internet failover that doesn’t reset active sessions. Speedify’s packet-level failover keeps calls connected through ISP outages.
  • Healthcare clinics and medical practices. Clinics running telehealth sessions, accessing electronic health records, and processing payments over internet connections need both reliability and, in many cases, compliant data handling. Speedify Self-Hosted Servers address both.
  • Retail and point-of-sale operations. Retail locations running cloud-based POS systems need internet connectivity that stays up through ISP outages. A dropped internet connection during a transaction has a direct revenue impact. Speedify’s router deployment covers all POS devices at the location.
  • Construction sites and field operations. Project sites with no wired broadband depend on 4G/5G cellular and Starlink for connectivity. Speedify bonds multiple connections at the site router for all devices on the project network.
  • Branch offices and remote locations. Clients with branch offices in areas with limited ISP options benefit from Speedify bonding whatever connections are available (DSL, 4G/5G cellular, Starlink) for a more reliable combined connection than any single link provides.
