Starlink Internet Connection Drops Happen to Everyone
Speedify measures thousands of Starlink users in more than 140 countries. In September 2026, fixed Starlink dishes went offline for about 38 minutes a day on average, and Starlink dishes on RVs and boats for about 46 minutes a day.
All Starlink dishes also see short dropouts roughly every 15 seconds as the Starlink internet connection switches from one moving satellite to the next. 1. Check the Starlink App to See Why Your Starlink Internet Connection Is Unstable
Open Statistics in the Starlink app and look at when and why your Starlink dish dropped. Short drops marked “obstructed” mean something blocks its view of the sky: go to step 2. If the Starlink dish stays online but your devices keep losing the internet, go to step 3. If the Starlink app reports an outage, see how to check if Starlink is down. If the drops are short, come back again and again, and nothing is marked obstructed, they are most likely the satellite switches: go to step 4. 2. Set Up Your Starlink Dish Correctly and Clear Its View of the Sky
Set up your Starlink dish following the instructions in your kit.
A common mistake is putting the Starlink dish where it can’t see enough of the sky. Use the Starlink app to check for obstructions, and move the Starlink dish away from trees and rooflines.
The cable counts too: make sure the cable to your Starlink dish isn’t sharply bent or damaged.
3. Place Your Starlink Router Where It Gives Your Devices a Strong Wi-Fi Signal
Put your Starlink router in a central spot, so you get a good Wi-Fi signal where you spend the most time. At the edge of the Wi-Fi network, your internet gets unstable.
Good to know: the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network reaches farther than the 5 GHz one.
Keep walls and windows between your devices and the Starlink router to a minimum, and keep the Starlink router away from other Wi-Fi networks, microwaves and refrigerators, which can interfere with its signal.
And when nothing else works, restart the Starlink router.
4. Use a Second Internet Connection Together with Starlink
