Check Whether Starlink or WhatsApp Is the Problem
Open the Starlink app. If it shows your Starlink dish offline or obstructed, the problem is the Starlink dish or its view of the sky (check your Starlink status). If the Starlink app shows Online, turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and make a WhatsApp call on cellular data. A clear call on cellular means the problem is on the Starlink side: your Wi-Fi signal or the Starlink internet connection.

Fix Frozen WhatsApp Calls and Slow Messages on Starlink
- Clear what blocks your Starlink dish’s view of the sky. Even if nothing covers the Starlink dish itself, a tree or part of your roof off to the side can block the view as the satellites move overhead. The obstruction map in the Starlink app shows where.
- Take the call closer to the Starlink router. Walls and floors weaken Wi-Fi quickly, and a weak Wi-Fi signal freezes a video call even when Starlink itself is fine.
- Turn off your camera when a video call keeps freezing. A voice call needs far less of your upload, and uploads are Starlink’s slow side: Starlink says 10 to 30 Mbps up, against 45 to 280 Mbps down.
- Send photos and videos in standard quality when Starlink is slow. HD photos and videos are bigger files and take longer to send. WhatsApp lets you choose standard or HD quality when you attach them.
- Know which drops you can’t fix. Your Starlink dish switches satellites about every 15 seconds, and a drop in the middle of a WhatsApp call freezes the video or cuts the call. No WhatsApp setting prevents it.
