Requirements
- an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later, or an Android phone or tablet on Android 9 or later, with a 4G/5G cellular connection
- a Wi-Fi network to connect to
- the Speedify app
Step 1: Check that 4G/5G cellular (mobile data) is turned on.
On your iPhone, tap “Settings,” then “Cellular,” and flip the “Cellular Data” switch on.
On your Android phone, swipe down on the notification bar and check that the “Mobile data” toggle is switched on. Or go into “Settings,” tap “Connections,” then “Data Usage,” and make sure “Mobile data” is switched on.
Step 2: Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
iPhone: Tap “Settings,” then “Wi-Fi,” and flip the switch on.
Android: Tap “Settings,” then “Connections”, then “Wi-Fi” and flip the switch on.
You can then select a network from the list that appears. Be aware that you usually have to enter a password for private networks.
Step 3: Install Speedify to combine Wi-Fi and 4G/5G cellular on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Download Speedify from the App Store or Play Store.
- When you open the app, Speedify detects both active connections, Wi-Fi and 4G/5G cellular. You’ll see each one as a connection bubble near the top of the Speedify dashboard.
- Select the server you want to connect to. The “fastest” option usually works best.

The switch takes a few seconds. In those seconds a video call can freeze, an online game can disconnect you, and a work app or work VPN can ask you to log in again, because your phone’s IP address changed.
Samsung phones have a built-in setting called Smart Network Switch (Adaptive Wi-Fi on newer models): open Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, then Advanced in the top right menu. Smart Network Switch moves the phone to 4G/5G cellular when Wi-Fi is weak, but the phone still uses one connection at a time.
