Internet Redundancy for Business, Without a Second Router
Most businesses buy internet redundancy as a second line that sits idle until the first one fails, which only helps if something notices the failure fast enough. Speedify combines every connection at once, so a dropped connection costs nothing: the others were already carrying the traffic. That needs two or more internet connections; on a single connection Speedify works as an encrypted VPN and cannot stop that connection from dropping.
Speedify runs as software on the computers and phones your staff already use, or on a supported router that covers the whole office, and combines Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, Ethernet, Starlink and satellite. Speedify can also combine several 5G connections without new hardware.
With Speedify, your internet stays on when one connection fails.
This guide explains where a failover router leaves gaps, how Speedify keeps sessions running when an internet connection fails, and how to set Speedify up for a team or an office.

Why a Failover Router Still Drops Calls
A dual-WAN router watches the primary internet connection and switches to the backup line once it decides the primary is down. Two things go wrong. Detection takes time, and video calls and uploads stall while the router waits to be sure. Then the backup line arrives with a different public IP address, so every service your team is signed into sees a new address: VoIP calls drop, remote desktop sessions reconnect, and some banking and trading sites sign users out.
The second line also earns nothing on a normal day. The business pays for it every month and only uses it during an outage.
How Speedify Keeps Business Internet Running When a Connection Fails
Speedify sends traffic over all available internet connections at once and measures each one continuously. When an internet connection slows down or drops, Speedify moves its traffic to the others, and Speedify describes that failover as happening in milliseconds. All traffic leaves through the Speedify server, so the public IP address stays the same and calls, remote desktop sessions and logins carry on.
Speedify also puts the second internet connection to work. Connections set to Primary are combined for speed: speedify.com says Speedify reaches up to 95% of their combined upload and download speed. Combining is not load balancing, which pins each session to one internet connection (combining vs. load balancing). For metered internet connections, Speedify’s priorities decide how much they are used: a Secondary connection carries traffic only when the Primary connections are congested, and a Backup connection only when every Primary and Secondary connection is down.
For the calls and broadcasts that cannot fail, Speedify’s Redundant Mode sends every packet over up to three internet connections at once and uses the copy that arrives first. Redundant Mode uses more data, so it suits a client call or a live event rather than a whole working day.
Speedify encrypts all of this traffic like a VPN, and the encrypted session stays up when a device changes networks, which also protects staff working over hotel or cafe public Wi-Fi.
Speedify Teams, Dedicated Servers and Routers for Business Redundancy
Speedify Teams puts every employee on one company account, with no minimum number of users. Admins add and remove users and see usage statistics in the Speedify Teams dashboard, and push Speedify settings to every device through the Teams API. Speedify Teams includes a 100% uptime guarantee: one day of free service for every hour of downtime.
Speedify Dedicated Servers give the business its own Speedify server, with speeds up to 1 Gbps, a static IPv4 address and port forwarding. Cameras, VoIP systems and remote access then stay reachable at one address, whichever internet connection is up.
For a whole office, Speedify runs on routers: OpenWrt 23.05 or later, GL.iNet firmware on listed models, and Powered by Speedify routers such as the Miri X510, each with a Speedify for Routers license. Every device behind the router gets the combined internet connection without installing anything, and remote workers and branch offices get the same protection on their own laptops and phones.
How to Set Up Internet Redundancy for Business with Speedify
- Add a second internet connection from a different provider, ideally over a different technology (4G/5G cellular, Starlink or a second wired line), so one outage cannot take out both.
- Install Speedify on each computer, or on a supported router for the whole office, and sign in with the company’s Speedify Teams account.
- Set unlimited internet connections to Primary, and set metered 4G/5G cellular to Secondary or Backup with a data limit.
- For servers and devices that must stay reachable, add a Speedify Dedicated Server for a static IP address and port forwarding.
- Turn on Redundant Mode before critical calls and live broadcasts.
Carriers, ISPs and MVNOs that want to sell combined internet connections as a service can build Speedify into their own apps and customer equipment: see the Speedify SDK for carriers and ISPs.
