Three quick checks tell you where the problem is before you change anything.
- Open Twitch’s status page. If it lists an incident for video or the website, everyone is affected and the only fix is to wait. Nothing on your side, Speedify included, fixes a Twitch outage.
- Play a video on another site, such as YouTube. If YouTube plays and Twitch does not, the cause is most likely your browser or the Twitch app, covered in the error loading data section below.
- On your phone, turn Wi-Fi off and open the same stream over 4G/5G cellular. If the stream plays on cellular, your Wi-Fi network or your home internet connection is the problem.
Why a Twitch Stream Will Not Load at All
When Twitch is up and a stream refuses to load, rather than loading and then stuttering, the cause is almost always your own internet connection. The usual reasons:
- your internet provider cannot deliver the speed on your plan, or you are on a low speed plan;
- a temporary fault on your provider’s network;
- your provider is throttling video, which shows up when other video sites are slow as well;
- packet loss, where pieces of data go missing on the way, most often on Wi-Fi.
Run a speed test and compare the result with the speed on your contract. If the numbers are far apart, call your provider. In many cases the speed test looks fine and Twitch still will not load. A speed test measures a short burst of traffic, while a Twitch stream needs a steady flow for as long as you watch. A Wi-Fi network that drops data for a few seconds at a time passes the test and still stalls the player. That is the “twitch not loading but internet is fine” case, and it is about stability, not slow internet.
Twitch Error Loading Data: What to Check First
The “error loading data” message appears for viewers and streamers alike. Rule out its three common causes in this order.
- Twitch itself. The status page above tells you in seconds whether the problem is shared by everyone.
- Your ad blocker. Ad blockers and privacy extensions that stop Twitch’s ad requests are a frequent trigger, in Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Edge and Safari alike. Pause the extension for twitch.tv, or open the stream in a private window, where most extensions are off. If the stream plays there, the extension is the cause.
- Your internet connection. Only after the first two, look at the connection with the checks below.

How to Fix Twitch Not Loading on PC and Mobile
- Reload the page, or force close the Twitch app and open it again.
- Clear twitch.tv cookies and cached files in your browser. In the Android app, clear the app’s cache in your phone’s app settings. On iPhone, update the Twitch app from the App Store.
- Set the stream quality to 480p in the player’s gear menu. If the stream plays at 480p but not at 1080p, your internet connection is too slow or too unsteady for the higher quality.
- Restart your router, move closer to it, or plug your computer into the router with an Ethernet cable.
- Try another network: your phone’s 4G/5G cellular, a phone hotspot, or a different Wi-Fi network.
