How Network Bonding on a Mac Works with Speedify
macOS can see several network connections at once, but it sends your traffic over one of them at a time. If that connection slows down or drops, your call, upload or download stalls until macOS switches to another one. Speedify changes that. Internet Connections a Mac Can Combine with Speedify
Speedify combines Wi-Fi, 4G/5G cellular, Ethernet, Starlink and satellite connections. On a Mac that usually means:
- Wi-Fi: the Mac’s built-in Wi-Fi. A USB Wi-Fi adapter for a second Wi-Fi network only works on Macs with an Intel processor and macOS 11 Big Sur or older, so on a newer Mac, connect to the second router with an Ethernet cable.
- Ethernet: the built-in port or a USB or Thunderbolt adapter. Speedify can also use 3 or more Ethernet connections on a Mac.
- Cellular: an iPhone tethered over USB, or a USB 4G/5G modem. Android USB tethering does not work with current Speedify on a Mac: it needs the HoRNDIS driver, which works only up to macOS 10.14 Mojave, and Speedify requires macOS 11.5 or later. An Android phone can still share its connection through cellular sharing, below.
- Satellite: a Starlink dish or another satellite service, connected by Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Why Combining Internet Connections on a Mac Beats Switching
A single internet connection is a single point of failure. Home broadband has outages, public Wi-Fi gets crowded, and cellular signal comes and goes. Network Bonding and Encryption Together
Speedify sends your combined traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a Speedify server, which puts it back together and passes it on to the internet. That tunnel is what lets Speedify move traffic between connections without breaking your sessions, and it also protects your traffic on public Wi-Fi. Speedify uses AES-256 encryption, and switches to ChaCha encryption on processors without hardware AES acceleration.
