Combine Starlink with Wi-Fi, 4G/5G Cellular or DSL in Speedify to Fix Zoom Calls Dropping on Starlink
Starlink can handle Zoom calls: Starlink says downloads run 45 to 280 Mbps and uploads 10 to 30 Mbps, more than a Zoom call needs. Zoom calls freeze or drop on Starlink when your Starlink internet connection has short drops: when something blocks your Starlink dish’s view of the sky, when your computer or phone has a weak Wi-Fi signal, or when your Starlink dish switches satellites.
You can fix most of these yourself. For the rest, use Starlink together with a second internet connection, like another Starlink dish, 4G/5G cellular or a DSL line, and Speedify keeps your Zoom calls going when Starlink dips.
Speedify keeps you online when Starlink drops, wherever you are
Starlink Internet Connection Drops Happen to Everyone
Speedify measures thousands of Starlink users in more than 140 countries. In September 2026, fixed Starlink dishes went offline for about 38 minutes a day on average, and Starlink dishes on RVs and boats for about 46 minutes a day.
All Starlink dishes also see short dropouts roughly every 15 seconds as the Starlink internet connection switches from one moving satellite to the next. Even a perfectly installed Starlink dish goes offline, and about 7 in 10 Starlink users on Speedify use Starlink together with a second internet connection, like 4G/5G cellular.
Check Whether Starlink or Your Wi-Fi Is Freezing Zoom Calls
Open the Starlink app. If it shows your Starlink dish offline or obstructed, the problem is the Starlink dish or its view of the sky (check your Starlink status). If Zoom warns that your internet connection is unstable while the Starlink app shows Online, the cause is short Starlink drops or a weak Wi-Fi signal between your computer and the Starlink router.
Fix Zoom Calls Freezing or Dropping on Starlink
- Clear what blocks your Starlink dish’s view of the sky. Even if nothing covers the Starlink dish itself, a tree or part of your roof off to the side can block the view as the satellites move overhead. The obstruction map in the Starlink app shows where.
- Plug your computer into the Starlink router with an Ethernet cable. A cable takes the Wi-Fi signal out of the picture. If your Starlink router has no Ethernet port, take the call next to the router.
- Turn off your video when the call gets choppy. Your voice needs far less upload than your camera, and upload is the slower side of Starlink.
- Join the audio by phone for calls that matter. If the Zoom invite lists dial-in numbers, call in from your phone for the audio and keep Zoom on your computer for the screen. A Starlink drop then freezes the picture, not your voice.
- Know which drops you can’t fix. Your Starlink dish switches satellites about every 15 seconds, and a drop in the middle of a Zoom call freezes your video or your voice. No Zoom setting prevents it.

Keep Zoom Calls Going on Starlink with a Second Internet Connection and Speedify
The satellite switches are the part you can’t fix on Starlink alone. What fixes them is a second internet connection used at the same time: your phone’s 4G/5G cellular data, another Starlink dish or a DSL line, whatever you have.
Speedify is the only app that combines all of your internet connections to keep you online when it matters most. Speedify sends your Zoom call over all of your internet connections at the same time. When Starlink drops, Speedify switches your traffic to the other internet connection and the call keeps going. Speedify’s Streaming mode puts calls first, and it can send the same data over two internet connections at once and use whichever arrives first (the setting is called Redundant Mode in Speedify). Speedify needs that second internet connection: with Starlink alone, it can’t stop the drops.
Download Speedify on the computer or phone you use Zoom on. On a computer, connect your phone with a USB cable to use its cellular data, or use Speedify’s cellular sharing: put the phone on the same Wi-Fi, install Speedify on both, and pair them in the Speedify app. To save cellular data, set cellular to Backup in the Speedify app: Speedify then uses it only when Starlink drops.
